Another crazy eBayer - look at this one

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

I see they're doing that anonymous bidder thing again... I'll bet there was some sort of legal decision that forced them to do that, as it seems to me that people get into competitions with certain bidders and will enter additional bids just to "beat" a specific person -- which is good for eBay's bottom line.

Anyway, I don't understand paying those prices for single plants.... but then again, think of what a great windfall it is to these sellers to have people willing to bid a plant up that high!

Noblesville, IN(Zone 5a)

Are they really going to pay that much? More money than brains. That is more than my groceries for a month. Crazy

Nevada, MO(Zone 6a)

That is crazy! I wonder if it's that "J" person again? I see "J" is bidding on the Yukako chimera yet once again. If "J" wins, I wonder how many Yukakos he/she has?

I noticed the seller has designated Yukako as "most popular." Do you think that's because "J" has bought so many of them? LOL

Initially I saw the $10 and thought...hmmm that is a lot for a plant. ROFLOL oh my GOSH they have a bid up to $330!?!?!?!?!?! WOW. I am in the WRONG business!

Northeast, NE(Zone 5a)

Well Said Makshi....My thoughts Exactly
Critter,Oh I am sure the sellers are loving it.Oh to have a plant worth that much..*sigh* That would pay for alot of groceries : )
Nancy

Silver Spring, MD

Holy Cow! Can you believe that. I am trying to figure out why someone would pay that much and I haven't got a clue.

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

That is Stupid. So Tea has her Sprot for sale. Paying that much is crazy. What if the plant dies ??

Abilene, TX

Wow, that is really hard to understand. That is new clothes, shoes, purse, and jewelry money. : )

(Zone 1)

I love plants like everyone, especially beautiful AV's ... but, WHY would someone pay that kind of money for that plant? Is it a rare AV? Just wondering. I just don't get it!

Cordele, GA(Zone 8a)

Allison, I think you summed it up well, in a nutshell....

Mansfield, TX(Zone 8a)

Wow! I can't even imagine!

Red Oak, NC(Zone 7b)

Loopy!!!! My husband would divorce me if I thought about it/(which I wouldn't)

St Joseph, IL(Zone 5b)

I've bid against one of those bidders before and can't/won't keep up. I've got my limit. I decided to buy elsewhere for chimeras, instead of on ebay. Goodness gracious. Then I'll make babies for us! For a small profit of course, Ha Ha. I promise it will be under $330!
Uhm Uhm Uhm.

Nevada, MO(Zone 6a)

Apparently, this plant is a sport of Yukako.

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Yup I don't even think it is pretty.

Nevada, MO(Zone 6a)

I'd have to agree Allison. I think the plant is "unique," but not beautiful like some chimeras--Angel's Petticoats for example or the relatively new chimera by Travis, I think it's called Breezy Brea.

Willamette Valley, OR(Zone 8a)

Geeezzzz...and I thought daylilies were expensive!!

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

I had two Breezy Brea's and a few suckers babies sold them all they never went as high as Travis plants did though.
LL sells a lot of Chimritas his 2007 list is not out yet he will have more most likely
http://www.lyndonlyon.com/AV%20List%20Chimeras.html
There are other sellers too.
Then there is always sharing. I shared several of My Sunray Trail
I sold last one to a girl from Local Av group who came twice to buy plants.
I don't have any won't be buying anymore too much money and I cant care for them.
I fount when I had them if I took a leaf off of crown they would sucker for me and if I let them get dry. Stress casue them to sucker. I was also Blessed with lots of Basket Babies.
Tea out bid everyone for years buying and spent big bucks for her Chims , now long hard work of progating she is going to get some money back. You know none of them are 100 percent bloom true by sucker or bloom stalk. Even Rob said after years The Alps bloomed all white.
I'd stick with the ones that are registeriad that when they had to be grown out at least three generations some growers do 4 and 5 to be on the safe side. More chance of getting ones to keep blooming stable for you year after year.
Look Chimiras are Sporting then the Sports are new names who is to say they won't revert back or Sport again ?
This does happen often.
Play it safe go with register Chims. Even then how much is too much to pay for a plant that could die >

Tulsa, OK(Zone 6b)

I saw this one yesterday and it still had the bidders names on it. It was the J person. Wonder at what point they change from the names to bidder #

Debbie

Elkins, AR(Zone 6b)

The day I spend that much on a violet..Someone please take me to the nearest nuthouse!!!

Richmond, VA(Zone 7a)

HA! Y'all are so funny! I would bet money on it that it's the "J" person. Course, not $330! I emailed them this weekend to ask them to please let someone else win a Green Lace AV they were bidding on and of course, no response. Maybe it's some Hollywood star that has their assistant just paying anything for every AV. Whoever it is definitely has more money than brains. I sure wish I owned some rare AV cause I'd welcome their money then!!!

Edison, NJ(Zone 7a)

I bought a few Chimeras from LL, and noticed on their web site that they are going to be at the New Jersey Flower & Garden Show in Edison from February 15-18th! Yeah! The convention center is only minutes from my house, so you can bet I will be going!

Okay, that gives me two weeks to find room for more AVs....

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

awesome Stephanie you will get some great plants for great prices !
I see mismad1( 84) won and she must be "MAD" Crazy like in the MAD magazines lol
A new high bidding face. I think some of them have more than one name.

Decatur, GA

I watched that auction from start to finish and I can honestly say I have never seen anything like it-both J and the cat were out of it after it went to 250.00. Then it went anonymous. I was interested in the plant so I paid attention. I think Breezy Brea went almost that high, maybe 300.00. The first offering on a new or rare chimera always goes high. What surprises me is when people bid on chimeras that are easily obtainable from reputable growers for a fraction of the prices they bid. "J" seems to be building a collection-and wants to get it done in a month or two-almost every chimera this person is currently bidding on is available at Lyndon Lyon, most for under 35.00.

Richmond, VA(Zone 7a)

But what kills be about "J" is they are bidding on duplicate plants!

Nevada, MO(Zone 6a)

Stephanie--You are so lucky! Lyndon Lyon is my favorite! His plants are great. Why am I stuck in the middle of nowhere???

Houston, United States(Zone 9b)

I don't know much about ebay but could the seller be in the bidding war...creating this frenzy???

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Yes they can be. I know a few that have different names anf no doubt friend help them out to.
