He eclosed today and I got to watch the whole thing. Absolutely fascinating! I am going to keep track to see how many of the 11 are male and how many are female.
It's a Boy!!
Who's HE? And where are the photos?
~ Cat :o)
I have 11 Monarch chryalis' that I brought in to protect them from the freezing temps. He is the first to emerge. I didn't get a photo cause I have tons of photos of Monarchs. I will let him free tomorrow since the temperatures are supposed to moderate.
Karen - Congrats on your new "boy" Monarch! I am sooooo glad the weather is warming up tomorrow. And I'm sure your Monarchs are too! Here in my zone it is supposed to be in the 80's on Thursday and then cool off a bit from Friday and on. But not too cold.
And I agree with Cat ...... Where's the photos!
Ooooooh! Isn't he a handsome fella! I bet you are so proud to have been able to raise and release these beauties, Karen! It's so much fun, isn't it!?
I don't see any around right now because I don't have any host plants that are tall and bushy! But come Spring, I know that I will see more.
We've had the cold temps, but it seems to have left my plants untouched. Thank goodness! Hopefully the winter will continue that way.
Thank goodness it is supposed to warm up a bit.
Boy #2 left the nest today! 9 to go.
4 girls and a boy today...that's 4 of each sex. Hope they can withstand nightime temps in the 30"s.
Whoo Hoo! Congrats on getting both males and females from your cats! I've heard they are pretty hardy butterflies. I'm sure they will be fine at night. They'll find a nice place to roost during the cold temps! :-)
Oh that is great news Becky!! 5 to go. I love these little critters.
Congrats Karen. I have seen a couple of B'flies on the very warm days. Had a Monarch one day wonder if it was one of your lol
could be (lol)
