The new updated version is now out--I got mine from Timber Press today. I imagine amazon will have it shortly. =)

Debbie, is this a revision of "Garden Bulbs for the South"?

west Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

yep--with a lot more added from what I can see so far. I shall have to thumb thru it better as I make supper. Normally the boxes all go in a corner of my office (unless they are live plants--I've trained my 18 year old to know the difference--lol) until I get a chance to look at them. Today she put the heavy, bigger boxes in the corner and put the book box right in the middle of my desk where I could not miss it. What a dear she is--I'll have to give her some sort of bonus.

So - have you had time to read it? What do you think?

pretty pictures---

Written in a more "folksy" manner, than like, say; Howard. Will I use it much for reference?--well no, not like Howard. Is it a good read? yes. Would I buy it again, knowing what I now know, anyway? yes.

It is a book about bulbs--hard to find a bad bulb book isn't it? ;)

Thanks for the review. Sounds like it's a nice addition to my collection. His first book was folksy too, so that's nothing new. I still like Bryan's "Bulbs" best as all-around general books, both the 2-volume and 1-volume ones.

I have the Timber Press Pocket guide to bulbs by Bryan. Its a good, general reference book for all the Cape Bulbs and anything not in Howard--I like it. The one you were talking 'bout is out of print, right? I shall have to keep my eyes peeled....someone will "need" to get rid of it at some point in time--I shall be right there when that time comes. If it is more thorough than the pocket guide; it shall surely be (and already is) needed for reference.

By the way, Leeds 'Bulbs in Containers' is a better a reference book than Ogden in my opinion. Ogden is pretty much in line with Howard. But like I said...is there a bad bulb book? I like it too.

You can get many books for really cheap prices at www.bookfinder.com It lists the books available and from whom. A friend just bought the one-volume "Bulbs" book for less than $25 there, and it was NEW! I just took a look, and right now the single volume is going for less than $20 and up for hardcover (ISBN 0881925292, 2002) and $15 and up for the softcover (ISBN 0881927252, 2005). I'd jump on it if I were you. Here's the site for Amazon's sellers: http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/0881925292/ref=dp_olp_2/105-8772258-6477208 They have TWO books for the lowest price, and both are NEW!

I'll have to take a look at the Leeds book. Are we being co-dependent? LOL
