I have fallen in love with Elephant Ears and wishing and dreaming of more !
We have always had the plain green one growing , now I have fallen in love with all I see :))
I have fallen in Love
I love it. So pretty.
Thanks :))
Pretty, Allison-do you ever check out the Aroid Forum? Lots of ee's there.
Yes I have :))
Hey Allison, do those elephant ears bulbs put out side babies? is that how it went from one to two pots so fast?
You know the baby when I got it was so small just a tiny like 1/4 clump with little soil wrapped in paper towel . I pot it up first with this Jewel of Opal variegated cutting that was wrapped with me. Duh I thoi=ught they were one plant. Then they grew and grew together in this 4 inch pot ! Now mind you this was just edn of Nov/begin of Dec. Then I was going over plant cuttings with person I traded and figured I had two plant growing together . They were doing real well and seemed to enjoy each others company !
When I separated them it seemed like the Elephant ear was Ok to make into two plants ( if there is a bulb in there its very tiny their young babies though good root systems and maybe 6-9" tall) . which I did, and the Jewel of Opal vareigated plant is now in two 4 inch pots one I promised out .
And then the EE ( I have name) are in 2 pots. So one pot little cuttings turned into 4 :))
Yes EE do have Pups off shoot plants I guess their called .
My plant above first picture had a tiny , tiny bulb with one small leaf in with it when I got it so I potted it up and see what it will do :))
I hopping to get some more I really like them ! Some kind people in Dg Florida forum might share some Pups with me !!
We enjoy growing Bromelaids too and they have Pups to share :))
She's a beauty, Allison! One of my 'faves', too!
(One of the few EE's that keep growing for me during the winter - without dormancy.)
You have the perfect environment for them - they're going to love it at your house!!
Thanks Nan ! You keep yours in all year ?
Mine if most likly going out and in the ground in Spring. It will enjoy the humidity and weather of Florida. We have a Shady spot for it in front by the front porch so I can still see it easy :))
Isn't that first one Alocasia African Mask? I have that one and have had it for years, although mine is small since it almost died and I had to cut it all the way back and let it start growing again. It is one of my favorites. I originally thought it was called Polly but someone on DG told me that if it was over a certain size then it changed from Polly to African Mask.
Jesse

Allison: Yes, mine are all potted.
I take them outdoors during the summer and lug 'em back in before late fall/winter sets in.
The only one I've grown in-ground is the standard green one (the name escapes me right now) and I'm considering trying a couple of others in-ground in the future.
Indeed, the entire plant grows much, much larger in ground - I was impressed!
I fount a picture of my EE taken on Dec 5th. It was then in a pot with Jewel of Opal I got in trade came together little did I know I potted them together.
