Floralight Ultra Gold Full Spectrum Lights

Drumheller, AB(Zone 2a)

Hi Debbie,

Here it is...I am sorry I can't remember where I got this info so I could give the lady credit, this is not my review, but I sure am happy with mine.........Joanne

They are called Floralight Ultra Gold full spectrum bulbs with 33,000 hrs. of life and are around 57-5800K and even after half of its life it only drops to around 52-5400K where as most other lights even if they start out at 5700K drop in the 4000K range by 1/2 life. They use a better grade phosphorous that they say costs like 300x the price of the normal phosphorous that goes in cool white bulbs.

They say Ultra Gold delivers an incredible light energy peak in the 440 nanometer range where the photosysnthic and phototropic needs are so critical and extends well beyond the 600 nanometer range to satisy all the demands of chlorophyll sysnthesis and photomorphogenesis. They also say that the bulb delivers a healthy balance of essential benificial near 'Ultraviolet' light energy too, thereby providing all the essential light needed to fuel all 5 major photoresponses in your plants. and it privides the full red/far red light plus is rich in indigo and the blue light energy.

Well I will have to see how well they work as these bulbs aren't cheap. I think they sell them at Home Depot for 49.95 a pr. Well that is out of my price range but I got a bit of a deal buying bulk.

Unfortunately they don't have a website as of yet. I just got a leaflet about their lights at Canada Blooms and picked up a carton of 30 bulbs from there.

Orkidlady, those bulbs sound great. Have you actually used them yet to see the benefit? I would be curious to find out if you see an improvement in your av's. You must grow lots of plants to buy 30 bulbs. good luck with them.

Hi Maureen,

No, no....that was not my review...sorry.

I have three Floralight stands with six Ultra Gold in each one.....I really like them myself. I have had very good success with my violets under them. I have raised them a tad bit higher as I was finding they were drying out too fast because they do tend to throw a bit more heat.

I have never used a full spectrum bulb before so I really have nothing to compare it to except the hardware store lights that I used to have in my first stand.

Now I will wait and see how long they last. I have marked each stand when I installed the new bulbs.

Sounds simular if not them the light tubes we bought at Lowes or HD when first got stands a few years ago. If so they are excellent. As we ran out we had to replace them with cool whites but to be honest not sure if I saw a difference. But maybe I did I had hundreds and hundreds of baies every where times hundreds and plants blooming young all the time and growing larger than normal . WOWWOOO maybe they are really worth the bucks. Took me at least six months to get two stands , light fixture and all tubes we could only aford to buy a couple every two weeks and I think they were less $$$ then.
BUT it is a known fast the Full Spectrum Lights give you more for your money as the lights from these 100 percent is used by your African violets. but the cool and warm tubes only 50 percent of the lights is used by your plants. O worte a little on this while back on my light thread :))

Orkid, thanks for the info!! I'm gonna do a search and see what I can find.

Pam interesting these lights are excellent too and price not bad. But you can also buy at Lowes and HD and avoid shipping.
I did a study/search on this about 3-4 years ago before buying lights .
Though your plants don't mind like them all the high spectrum/gro-lights close to daylight is best and again more for your money.
Your plants use 100 percent of the light in these.
Your plants use only 50 percent of the lights in cool/warm tubes.
With all bedifits and longer life , less to operate and more benifits they save you money in the long run.

This is interesting for someone wanting a table top with gro-lights for plants, babies, mini, seedlings and more.
The one on Pam sight http://www.orchidlight.com/1-tier.html

220076773222 Nice but buy now $599.00 and another 99.99 S/H .
All these wonderful light stands are great but what your paying for the exspnsive lights.
You can build, buy or use stands you have and buy your own high spectrum light tubes and fixtures and save a lot of money.
Can't afford buy a set every two weeks or once a month soon you'll have a whole stand full !

Morning!

I have to have castors on my stands because I have to get access to them front and back so these work wonderful for me....I don't drink, I don't smoke....so I think it is a small price to pay for something that brings me such joy....well most of the time anyway...hehe!!

As long as the bills are paid and we aren't going hungry.....I am buying ready made because my hubby is not good at anything to do with carpentry....he is good at lots of other things though....hehe!!!

I could also buy no name brand violets and they would be cheaper but now I prefer the name brand ones so there ya go....I am very blessed that we can afford to buy the things we want...notice I said want and not need....hehe.....I think our wants outweigh our needs most of the time.

Allison, too rich for me right now, too. Interesting, though. : )

Are you going to buy the one on EBAY? Pam

Drumheller, AB(Zone 2a)

Hi Pam,

I don't think so....the shipping would probably kill me to Canada. I am contemplating getting another one but just at the contemplating stage yet.

I have got to definitely cut back on my violets....I transplanted 131 last week and gave about 80 away so far and I have two trays on the floor in my bedroom because there is no room on the lightstands for anymore....what is a gal to do????

I am just being really picky now about what I buy.

Wow....what a collection. : ) I have a lot of leaves and babies right now, so I am trying to curb my buying, too. If they all grow to adulthood, I will be swamped. : )

I'm thinking in a few months trying the one from Gardensalive.com ( I put wrong link above) it's only $59.99 table top good for me for seedlings and I don't have many plants.
By then they will have the Special $20.00 off again . It comes with
Jumpstart your indoor-planted seedlings with Jump Start Light System! It provides seedlings, houseplants, and indoor flowers with the full spectrum of light, ensuring that photosynthesis takes place so plants grow healthy and strong.

Our sturdy system comes complete with stand, light fixture, and two full-spectrum fluorescent bulbs. The stand’s height can adjust from 4” to 2’ so the light source will never be too far from your plants. Jump Start Light System provides a 2’ long growing area- perfect for two standard seed-starting trays or several houseplants or indoor flowers. Works great with the Healthy Gardens Hydroponics Kit as well.
. Energy-efficient system is easy to assemble
http://www.gardensalive.com/product.asp?pn=2925
So when I can get it for $35.00 with coupon I'm game.
I have to wait a few months anyways as our living room needs new 3/4 inch plywood floors and flooring to make safe for my wheel chair. I went threw once alreadt scary good thing Hubby was in the room.

Gee that is a really good price Allison! I was contemplating getting one from Floralight (table top) but it was like 200.00!

Pam, I have about 13 of Pat Hancock's hybrids and oh my gosh they are going to fill one row of traysor more.... and I have no idea where they are going....I am trying to postpone repotting until I decide what I am going to do about another stand.

Gosh three should be enough but then I don't know when to quit...LOL!

Joanne

Abilene, TX

That's what I am growing, too! Allison gave me a couple of Buckeye leaves, and they did so well that I ordered a bunch.

: ) Hope they do well!!!

Drumheller, AB(Zone 2a)

Hi Pam,

Oh they will thrive...quite a few of mine are in bloom and looking so pretty...had to take a bunch out of the same tray as they are growing so well there wasn't enough room for them.

You will be very happy with them!

Joanne

Tulsa, OK(Zone 6b)

Wow, the one on Ebay if less expensive than the 2 tier stand on the Orchid site. Wish I could afford a stand like that. Talk about easy to manage the way you can adjust the height of the lights and move it around so you can get to the back of your stand without knocking everything over in front. LOL

Anyone know where you can buy just the bulbs?

Debbie

Drumheller, AB(Zone 2a)

Hi Debbie,

I am not sure where in the US but Floralight in Ontario Canada has them. I will email the fellow at Floralight and ask him for you.

I do know you can buy the Full Spectrum grow tubes at Lowes and HD
