Chirita sinensis 'Hisako' Babies
Oh Allison .... Mom is Beautiful and babies are soooo cute. I do want one of those cuties! You sure do have a green thumb, or maybe I should say "10 green fingers"!
Great Growin!
Lin
Wow! I loved the foliage so much, but such a pretty flower too! I have never seen one close up ....Gorgeous!
Thanks Lin ! Yes you can have one and Alsobia Cygnet , E.F.Blue Heaven too !
Oooooh, I am so excited .... I hope I can be a good, NO .... a Great "plant mommy" to these beauties! You are such a sweetie to share so much Allison! Your knowledge is just such a gift to us all. And, your friendship here on DG is a gift also. God Bless you!
Lin
Thanks Lin ! Their easy to grow ! I can even send two each in case !
Next week is so cold so maybe week after they will come to live with you :))
Allison
Allison, that is a beautiful plant and the babies look great. You must get some nice sunlight coming in your windows.
Thanks Maureen. Sorry to say not much light . our home next door had better windows. We have had a lot dark days this whole week dark glump rainy. Rain is good though ! If i has light they'd be three times the size with better variegation . He we have not many windows and ones we have awnings and front of home is porch 24 ft by 12 ft blocks house windows.
I can send you one !!
Allison .... You are an "Angel" .... It's going to be very cold here too ... predicting 35 tonight! That is TOO cold for me! We've had a little rain over here on the East Coast, but not much ... sure could use a LOT more! It's been gloomy and cloudy a few days, and chilly with the wind. Hope Spring arrives for everyone real soon! Hey, maybe it's a sign of Spring .... saw many Robin's in my yard the past two days .... we only get Robins here when they are heading back North! That is the only time we ever see them around! They don't stop here during migration in the fall/winter, only on the migration back North for Spring. So, I will keep hoping that they are on their way to all you folks in the North!
Lin
Oh I love it when the Robins come ! Last year our yard was full of Robins . And a street or two over is a cementary and everyone said it was full of Robins !!
We don't get cold here often hek last week 60;s and Sunny this past week rainey and gloomy. We got a lot of rain last night. Today 30-40 gust winds I don't think the sun came out. At 5:30 am it was 67 degrees as I listen to the news they said the warmest part of the day then it then it wne t down . It's about 6:30 58 dgrees now. This week will be cool/cold but maybe the following week will be back up in the 80's and Sunny :))
It's 58 degrees here right now, but the news just said 28-35 degrees tonight. I'm sure we will be around 35 .... WAY TOO COLD!
WOW we are supose to have around 45
Oh brrrr that does sound cold for Florida.
Oh Allison,I meant to tell you the 'Hisako' you sent me earlier this year is really growing well.I can't wait to see its blooms. Thanks so much! Your pictures are stunning! You all stay warm down there in Florida. It sounds like unusual weather for that part of the country.
Nancy
Yes it's cold for Florida but it won't last. Now where Eunice lives up North more even colder .
I'm glad your plant is doing good. It a large grower with light and food. Likes small pots Chiritas do . They can take colder weather though to 40 degrees but like it on the dry side. Sometime I think dry side makes it bloom.
Sure would love to see a picture of it Nancy !
I just love this Chirita, When I saw a picture I had to go looking for it. I'm glad it's so easy to progate I gave so many babies away I lost track mine Mom is lucky it she has leaves Hehe.
I just love that Chirita. I tried to order it twice from Rob's but it was out of stock both times. Now, it's not even showing on their site! Must be a popular one!
Y'all stay warm! It's supposed to be 25 here Tuesday night! I can't believe it! We haven't had temperatures that low in many years! I am glad it doesn't last long, but even one night of temp's that low will flatten a lot of my plants in the yard! My huge Sheffelera's - one is above the roof ... it will be mush too! And, it won't look good again until probably late April! Oh well, not much we can do about Mother Nature! I guess we just have to be glad we don't have all the snow and ice as some of y'all do up North!
"Hurry Up" ..... Spring! We're all waiting!
Prettyyyyyyyy! From leaf, yes? And beautiful picture of her flower too. Nice job Allison.
Laura
Thanks Laura and Lin !
Lin for some reason I don't know why some sellers/vendors have a hard time progated this plant ? I know last year Nan wanted one but the seller said she could not get them to progate . I sent her one in trade.
Other times I sent people much larger baby plants but under lights she grows so much larger and deeper variegation in foliage , and faster.
My first plant started blooming pretty young . It had bloom stalks coming up like streps do all around the crown of the plant giving dozesn of flowers. First one flower pops out you think this is all , then more come out of the same bloom stalk. One had 20 flowers it was so heavy I cut it off and put it into a vase where it was fresh for about two weeks ! The flower do take awhile to form but long lasting Oh this plant I'm talking about is same Mom plant I've only kept one Mom plant always mean to keep another in case but never have.
It's a cool plant and can grow real large . Mine was taking a whole 36 x 24 shelf under double grow lights. I'd let the buds all form and start coming up then it would go into natural light for a couple months blooming as the flowers stalks are strong and stnad high. Now mine is just growing i natural light doing good.
They like tight pots, trans-plant once a year or even every 2-3 years they don't mind. They don't even mind build up . They like it on the dry side and can take down to 40 degree weather from easy and hardy fun beautfil plant to grow. I think I have about 10 - 12 to share or trade !
I like houseplants, seeds, tropical plants anything for trade :))
Well Allison ... I have seeds and houseplants to trade with you! I can't wait for the weather to warm up for trading to begin! It's 38 degrees here right now .... at almost 9 O'clock in the morning! I wish the weather reports were wrong about us having 25 -26 tonight! I know everything in the yard will be mush, even though we cover a lot of stuff with old sheets, blankets and comforters! It's supposed to be back up to @ 80 this weekend with lows back in 60's.
Aaaaaaaaaah .... Mother Nature. Sure makes us appreciate all the warm days doesn't it?
Lin ! Not a trade for these I am going to send them with your Bingo prize though they may ship alone :))
Plus you sent me a gourgous Annabelle last month :))
Do you have any Elephant ears ?
I love them ! We have the plain green one, and one I am growing from a trade , hope to get some more for trade and postage and have this one.
Allison, That's a Beauty! No, I don't have any EE's. When we bought our house 32 years ago, there were some in the back yard, but we took them all out because I was afraid they would hide/harbor snakes! Well .... we have snakes ocassionally anyway! I might have to find a couple of these for my yard. They get knocked down with cold weather, like tonight (@ 26 degrees!), but I think they come back in the spring.
What other plants are you interested in? I have some of the Swiss Cheese Philodendron for you (rooted cuttings) and will look around to see what else you might be interested in!
Allison,
Trying to think what I have to possibly trade with you. Are you interested in succulents at all? I could send you some nice succ cuttings for a wreath or nice pot of plants. They are all in for the winter. Easy to work with. Let me know.
Laura :)
I don't have many of any type of plant houseplants, seeds, succulents,
Philodendron known of any so I enjoy any surprise !
Lin Yeah ! Lin how was your weather hope no frost for you too ?
Yeah ! 5:30 am the clouds blanketed us NO freeze in our weather viewing area ! 44 degrees here ! Hubby did cover everything in case .
Hope you all faired good with no frost either !
Hey Allison: We did BETTER than the weather people predicted! They said 26-28 degrees for us .... about 6 O'clock this a.m. it was 33 and I don't think it got below that. No frost! I haven't been out to walk around the yard to uncover anything yet ... it's still 38 right now at almost 9 O'clock! Yesterday we NEVER got out of the upper 40's! I don't remember that ever happening and I've been in Florida since 1967! I am just sooooo very thankful that no plants were damaged! I have some things doubled covered. I'm thinking of investing in some of those "frost" blankets I've seen at Home Depot lately. They are pretty large and I forget the exact size but I think something like 15x60 and were about $15 if I remember correctly. I wonder if they would help any more than the old blankets I've been using for years? I know they are real light weight. My plants get all squished from heavy covers over them, but they do perk back up after a day or two.
Stay warm!
Hi LIn ! WOW colder there for you. We did get almost 60 yesterday and the sun warmed out home so heat went off for awhile !
We are up to 48 degrees now.
We just use sheet to cover to keep the frost off. Hubby did cover everything but luckly the clouds protected us and so it did not get as cold ! We have lived on this street going on 5 years had light frost twice , covered few more times incase and luckt never any plants lost !
Stay warm !
I'm green with envy this morning. 10 degrees and a wind chill of minus 5. Spring can't get here fast enough!! I hope to be a snowbird once I retire and enjoy your "cold" weather all winter. LOL Lou
Lou: "Come on Down"! Wow! 10 degrees ... that is depressing! I spoke to my youngest sister in North Georgia yesterday and she said it was 16 degrees there with a wind chill in single digits! See .... it even gets cold in the south! When my husband retires, I would like to become a "Snowbird" and live in the Mountains of Tennessee, or maybe North Carolina during the summer and return to Florida in the winter! I couldn't stand living and driving in Snow & Ice .... don't know how folks do it!
Sounds like great plans for staying warm. Move South :))
