We are fortunate to have them wintering on the river here, and I've seen them many times, though conditions are seldom set up for decent images. Thought these were worth sharing.
More bald eagles
Fantastic shots .... these photos speak for themselves. You had perfect conditions, i.e. blue sky, direct of sunlight, etc. (and a pretty steady hand)
Awesome shots - literally took my breath away!!!!!! Great work.
tigerlily, what camera and lens were you using ? Did you use a tripod ? The reason I ask is that I am in the market for a good tripod and head.
Canon 30D with the 75-300. No, I don't have use of tripod right now, 'cause I loaned it to DS. I'll probably have to get him one for his b'day, so I can get mine back! LOL
This was the first time I'd seen the eagles that the sky was blue. ;-) I read somewhere that one should go birding only on sunny days, as I suspect the writer was a camera person too.
DH is home this week, and when he saw the sun shining he told me to go look for the eagles. He knew how badly I wanted some good images. Nice guy..........
Thanks for the kind words!
Great pics tiger!!! You do have a steady hand; mine would be a blur. I never tire if seeing the eagles!
tigerlily: Really great shots, fantastic details. Congratulations.
That's a wow, too!! Such majestic birds . . . even one the ground, eating!
We saw a second pair of Bald Eagles, in cottonwood trees, hanging over Portage Creek, about halfway up the road to the Portage Glacier visitors center. There was a lot of open water in this stretch of the creek, and they were looking for fish. Neither pair was as cooperative as the one tigerlile photographed. I spooked all of them before getting close enough for close pic's. and this one was obscured by too many branches.
I just got really lucky. The eagle was close, (right at the highways edge), it was a sunny day, and there was room to pull over. I took a lot of photos that day, while usually they spook after just a few shots.
Mostly I see them on the other side of the river with the light behind them, or in heavy shadows. I have made many trips down the highway, hoping for good conditions.
Thanks for your photos, Grasmussen! Like pelletory, I never tire of the eagles.
