This is not much of a problem now as I used to complain when I started my pond 3 years back. Not now as I have learnt that it keeps the water clean. Summer is about to come and so I may have lots of them. As it gets heavier ad bulkier, settles towards the bottom. It comes off easily when pulled up. The entire cluster. The one in the pic is undisturbed.
Green thread algae in my pond
Hydrogen Peroxide can help with keeping string algae at bay. I generally add abot 1/8th of a cup every 2-3 weeks to a very small prefab pond.
A bale of straw will clean this up almost over night. Put in the deep end.
Jeri, that sounds interesting although I knew about H peroxide. Then when should I remove the straw from there?
It's not necessary. The fish can even nest in it. The bales I had were about 6"X8" and to my 8000 gallons I added two.
Is there a picture of the bale available? The straw looks like what? The straw we get is of rice plants (called paddy straw), usually fed to cattle in farms.

It's barley straw. I bought it from an aquartic shop. I hope this helps.
