The Iowa avocado crop is OK

Norwalk, IA(Zone 5b)

My grafted miniature (6 ft tall eventually) avocado tree is setting fruit.I got this a year ago from Parks, on clearance. They said it was self fertile , but didn't fruit last year.So I took a little teeny tiny paintbrush and gave it a little help this time.Taa daa! little avocadoes are showing up this time. WHOOPEE! Nothing like homegrown guacamole in the afternoon. LOL

Can you get that crop moving!! Those of in the southwest may have to turn to you to get our avacado fix. :o)

Keaau, HI(Zone 11)

We have a dog...Thelma (sister is Louise) who finds the dropped avos and hides them....only to dig them up later when (shussssh) no one is looking. She hasn't found the bag of chips yet....but she IS about 15lbs overweight. But her coat is awesome!!!

The dogs at Florida Colors nursery all eat the avocados too! SMART dogs.

I think every animal loves avocados! When I lived way up a valley on Maui-the pigs were the worst-raiding the crop as soon as they fell to the ground. You had too get up early to get there before them. And then the cats-and dogs, and rats. I think its the oil in them, but I would have to say that they were the most popular food in the valley.

Put me down for two cases please. I may even drive down to pick them up.

Hummmm- my friend that raises birds (parrots & cocateels just told me that they will eat anything but avacados and chocolate! She said that these would kill them?? She cooks for them and says they eat anything she does.

Azalea its true chocolate and avocadoes are toxic to birds, chocolate is toxic to dogs also. I had 150 parrots at one time years ago when I raised them,I only have one now but she eats EVERYTHING!!! LOL If I eat it so does she. :-) her name is Kima (key ma)
