Hi there, I'm new to this forum; I'm only watching 32 out of 205 forums..just cann't keep up w/all the great people out here.
I'm coming here today to ask about goldfinches. Today one was drinking out of the hummingbird feeder. Or at least she was trying to, I don't know if it could get to the "water". Is there a Goldfinch necture I should be putting out, and does it have it's own type of feeder (a a hummingbird). Wow, this is convoluted!
American Goldfinch
Hi SacValley and Welcome to the forum!! I have never heard of a Goldfinch nectar. Do you have a bird bath that is shallow enough for the goldie to get a drink without fear of drowning? You could always put a small rock in the middle. One with a drip feature is nice too. I think your little guy was just curious and maybe thirsty.
Again welcome to the forum and we look forward to more of your posts. :-)
Hey SacValley !!
Back in Arizona I had a lot of house finches coming and drinking hummingbird food !!! and some gila woodpeckers too.
They do have "sweet tooth"' phephephe ..should I say "sweet beak" for it.
You can have water around , but they not confused or anything , they know , what they want, believe me..lol
Wow, thats weird I've never seen them at my hummer feeders.
My property has alot of available water; but none by the bird feeders. Thanks for the idea of putting out a birdbath near the feeders, will do it tomorrow.
My 16 mo old granddaughter is learning to "sit quite" so the birds will come and eat thier seeds. (We sit about 15 feet away.) Giving them bath water will really to great!
SacValley,
We sometimes get House Finches at our Hummingbird feeders too (our feeders have perches that the House Finches sit on). We haven't ever seen the Goldfinches sit on the Hummingbird feeders to drink the sugar water.
