I'm new to bulbs, having just planted my first daffodils and tulips this past fall. For the most part I hadn't had any problems with the warm weather causing my bulbs to sprout early until today when I noticed that some of my tulips that were planted near our drainage field have started to come up. What's the best thing to do? Should I cover them heavily with mulch in hopes of them wintering over, or should I let the soon to arrive single-digit temperatures do them in? Any thoughts would be vastly appreciated--I'd hate to lose any of these tulips. Thanks!
Tulip bulbs sproutingwhat to do?
Do NOTHING. As long as the flower spike is below ground you're fine. Do not mulch. Just let Nature do it's thing.

Hi Tom--thanks for the reply! After I made this post I decided to call the vendor I ordered the bulbs from (White Flower Farm) and spoke with a lady who advised me to cover the sprouts with oak leaves and/or pine boughs, which I then went and did. Perhaps I wasn't clear with her and she thought I had flower spikes... As per your suggestion, do you think I should now remove the oak leaves and pine boughs?
