Ramblin' Spots

I love the crown variegation on this plant. It is reverting to one of the original parents with the blue blooms.

Oh this is a great trailer ! You see this type of sporting in blooms a lot but most often with fantasy bloomers. I love it when mine do it :)) I call them my fun plants !

I'm afraid I can't take the credit for this one. It was a gift from a friend in November. BUT I haven't killed it yet so that is a plus for me!

Are the trailers easy to grow? Same care as standard AV's? I've never tried a trailer or mini for that matter and am getting an order together ( or maybe I should say "Wish List) for when places begin shipping again in Spring ... I'm thinking of getting at least one of these trailing types to try!

Silver Spring, MD

Trailers need less light. I put mine at the ends of the shelf. Some require trimming to shape them. I had a very sad experience with that. Lost a Sticky Wicket that was about 14 inches across because I wanted to make it bigger and fuller. Cut it back to much and lost it. I don't have much experience but SnowRose does. I am sure she would give you some pointers.

What happens if you never trim for shaping? Can you just let them grow the way they want?

I hope anybody will chime in with their advice! I'm just loving the great advice and idea's I'm getting here at DG.

Each plant grows differently. Some grow up while others sprawl out. The idea behind trimming is to encourage growth in the direction you want it to grow. I think Rob at violet barn has a good lesson on trailers. I'll go check.

Silver Spring, MD

He does. I don't know how to hyperlink it. It is at www.violetbarn.com Culture Corner under the Library of articles.

I've grown so many trailers in the past 4 years everyone I could get a hold of zillions of them Snow :))
They are the easiest to grow most fun, and need just as much light or more I fount excpt for girl foliage !
They are extremly easy to progate by leaves.
I wrote many a thread about growing trailers . Do a search it use to be in Sticky but was taken out.

Do you have any trailler plants that you are growing now, Allison?

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Nanna I am not growing anything. I sold my stands last summer lights fixtures , I have a few gesneriads that grow like weeds, Begonias, Six av's new I got a couple weeks ago from Eunice gift cert. from Bluebeirds for Christmas, Annabelle gift, and one two other plants.
I really never can get out of bed and if I do can not do so by myself.
All my plants are watered by others but what I have might be once a wek this time a year and take 5 minutes if that :))
But I do have a lot of Joy and love and experience in growing to share with others :))

Silver Spring, MD

I know you do, Allison. I was hoping that you were able to do some growing and propagating. You do it so well. I enjoy reading your advise and "treasure" (miss your old name) your comments.

Nice trailer Nanna, lots of blooming crowns.

Ohh so pretty Nanna. You sure can grow them.

Thanks jannich. This plant was a gift from SnowRose when 4 forum members got together at my house in November. She is the one who can really grow plants. I not only appreciate her advise but respect her judgements concerning av's.
