Amazing, Dete. I love your greenhouse blooms! Which brick building is that? I love old brick buildings.

Hi Dete,is it usual to get that cold there each winter?I thought az was one of the warmer states!

Davie, FL(Zone 10b)

Greetings Dete..
I was station in Davis Monthan AFB back in the 80's for A-10's and A-37b's.
The only time i seen it snow there was on top Mt.Lemmon..
As you know the dry air in Tucson is perfect for the AF and that is why they have the boneyards..
:)

I am not sure if we ever talk before but hey nice to meet you..
That first pic looking at the color and form of the inflo is this a young plant?
I have a plumie just like it called "Mellow Yellow" which smells like bannana yogurt/light peach smell..
The "Mellow Yellow" is a local variety here in south florida but very hard to find because hurricanes took many of the mother trees..
To my knowledge and looking at my collection there are about 5 to 7 yellow varieties in the world..
A few of my yellows have not flower yet for me..
It is really my fault because many of these i just throw in pots and forget about them :(
My yellows are:
===========
Mellow Yellow
Vera Cruz Lutica
Sirmongkol
Sundreamer
Raung Sukdee
Bali Palace ?

Your pic looks like my mellow yellow and my other variety called raung sukdee.
Hurricane wilma did a nice job on my mellow yellow however
here is a pic of the raung sukdee:
http://img458.imageshack.us/img458/5552/raungsukdee2rk.jpg
The other pic of the pink and white plumie looks like a cross between a dwarf pink and the daisy wilcox..
What is the cross?
Either way they are both winners for sure..
Sorry for the cold and i wish you many warm days..
I might have to add the coz to my collection..
:)

Davie, FL(Zone 10b)

Err..
The forum won't let me edit yet but the raung sukdee pic belongs to a thai seller it is not mine.

Tucson, AZ

clare - that brick building is my house. https://www.quickbase.com/db/baaeyrrxn?a=q&qid=-1000064

brical1 - we usually get some nights in the 30s and a freeze here and there. this winter has been more 30s and "normal". the desert can actually get quite cold during the winter because of the low humidity.

lopaka - nice to meet you, too. that dry air is a bummer come summer time. the plumeria do well. however, they do better once the monsoon season starts and the humidity rises. you'll have to add aztec gold to your yellow collection. this yellow is cozumel. i don't think i've ever seen pic of cozumel. it sure does smell yummy. here's a pic of it today.

Oh, let me introduce you two: Robert, Dete. Dete, Robert. LOL! I'm surprised you guys haven't met before.

Dete, your house is so awesome! I am packing my bags and coming to live with you right now! j/k I love the archway leading to your door, man. What a great house. I really like your yard too. Dete, Robert just forgot about Aztec Gold because he does love that one and has several trees. Dete, here is Florida Colors's picture and Roger's is there too.

Robert, Cozumel Yellow is a yellow found and named by Florida Colors. They also have 'Bowen Yellow' this year, which is an Oz variety. 'Bali Palace' and 'Bali Hai Gold' are nice yellows too. There are more and more yellows being created/introduced all the time. I have a yellow which is so outstanding called 'Canary Yellow,' but it didn't bloom for me last year. Kukiat sent me 'Sirmongkol' and another yellow which he loves and says is a fantastic yellow called 'Vishanu Gold,' also known as 'Emperor.' I also have some unnamed yellows from Hawaii that I just love. Here is one blooming right now in the greenhouse.

That's a lovely pic, Dete. Is that six petals? Cool!

Here is my 'Canary Yellow' on the far right in the picture.

This is one that I got from Aloha Palms when they were still in business, but the yellow fades fairly quickly to white.

Heidi is a nice yellow but a small flower. Lyndi in Singapore has several nice yellows too. Here is Kukiat's picture of 'Vishanu Gold.'

Very nice pcs indeed..
I am sorry i didn't make myself clear..
When i say 5-7 yellows i am talking about solid yellows with no pink bands or the type of yellow that is
derived from the celadine type color combo..
The solid yellows as i call them have no band on the back of them tho some have a hint of white mix in..
My mellow yellow for example is solid yellow even the center is a yellow color..
Sorry it was late when i posted and looking at your pic i didn't see a pink band on the back of her..
:)

lopaka.....totally off-thread..but my DH flew the first A-37 into D M, returning it from reserve to active....small world....

Omigosh, Detrick - you guys got it too, huh? Look at your yard!!!

Ah, well, just think of all the bad bugs it killed.

Heck, I'm staying in Tennessee - it doesn't snow half as much here!!!!

Tucson, AZ

Absolutely amazing pics, Dete! Wow! Makes me cold just looking at them.

Robert, you were in the Airforce? That's so cool, dude! Let me say 'thank you' to you as I do to all men and women in the service. You are so right about the yellows. The ones without the stripe in the back are indeed more rare, but new ones are appearing all the time. A while ago, I was searching for a pure yellow one, with no stripe, no pink, and no white anywhere on the flower, and I couldn't find one! Kyle was looking for one like that, and I was trying to find it for him. There are some that are close, but most have blooms which fade to white, at least around the edges. When my 'Canary Yellow' blooms, I'll have to see if it is truly a pure yellow.

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 9a)

Ditto on the amazing photos. WOW

How did those saguaro's (sp?) make out in the cold weather?

Tucson, AZ

ardesia - they are fine. i'm not sure how low they can go though.

Ventura, United States(Zone 10b)

Dete, I took this one in the greenhouse today. I think it is one of Aloha Palms if I'm not mistaken.

I took a pic of this one too. It's Pacific Pearl and has a great fragrance.

Thumbnail by Clare_CA
Ventura, United States(Zone 10b)

This is one of my seedlings, 37-2, that I just love. The fragrance is really strong, but I can't quite put my finger on what flower it smells like. It's not a plumeria fragrance. It's more of a jasmine or something like it.

Thumbnail by Clare_CA
Tucson, AZ

wow! very nice clare. i'm definitely excited about the pacific pearl. kathy gave me a large cutting from her tree.

what was the coldest temp in your yard during the freeze? have you ran a heat at all in your greenhouses this year?

dete

Ventura, United States(Zone 10b)

Hi Dete! That was nice of Kathy. Pacific Pearl has a very strong classic fragrance, and I think you will like it. My yard registered at 32F at around 1:00 a.m. and then went down to 28F by 2:00 a.m. and stayed at 28F until around 5:00 a.m. if I remember correctly. Yes, I just put up the second greenhouse two days ago, and I am running heat in both of them now at night. They stay on the low setting and don't get below 50. I will probably put up the third one today.

Tucson, AZ

what out for that electric bill. yikes! i've ran power into my greenhouse for ~ 90 days now. total cost so far is about $180. i was hoping to avg $50 per month, but this winter has been too cold. hopefully, i will be able to cut back on the heater use soon!

dete

Ventura, United States(Zone 10b)

Yeah, Dete, I know all about that with $400-a-month electric bills last winter. Last month's was $323. It's time to turn the heat off now that temps are staying in the 40's at night again for me.

Tucson, AZ

LOL

Phoenix, AZ(Zone 9b)

Great snow pictures D... haven't seen those yet... lots of snow... Mesa got hit by that storm too... I didn't even get hail... luckily all of my plumeria were inside or in the greenhouse...
