I was lerking around ebay for a couple of days. I even bid on a plant. Of course I was instantly out bid. It was really addictive.

Your plants are beautiful. Were you pleased with the plants when they arrived?

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Oh Nanna this seller above has the Ma's Megaphone (9385) 10/15/2004 (O. Robinson) Double medium blue bell. Variegated dark green and white, plain, pointed. Standard
Plant with bells variegated ! I had never seen this one before have you ?

Silver Spring, MD

I haven't, Allison. It was hard to see it clearly. I'm going to check out Violet Barn and see if they have a better picture.

I just checked out Violet Barn and the AVSA pictures and could find a better picture. Oh dear!

I' haven' rec'd them yet. One of the sellers is up in PA and has asked me since the weather is severely cold if she can mail it out next week. I should get the rest of this week.

I have to tell y'all something funny and shameful! I have been watching a number of AV on eBay and there is one buyer who bids on EVERYTHING and money is no object. So anyway, there was one that I loved and "she" had bid on it so I figured i'd try. Well, of course it came back that I needed to go higher. So mean old me thought "Humph! I'll let "her" have it - so I kept bidding on it and made the price go up real high. It was only like $4.50 when I got to it and I put it over $20 before I stopped! I know, I'm bad, but dang it, "she" buys everything!!! :>)

Nevada, MO(Zone 6a)

Don't feel bad Gardengirl--been there, done that. There is one buyer on e-bay right now that actually makes me cringe everytime I see his/her name.

Also, you sometimes will get second chance offers that way so if it's a plant that you really want, you can still get it. That's how I came by some hard to get varieties, like Bishop, Ancient Lace, Chartreuse Wonder, etc.

Don't give up!

Richmond, VA(Zone 7a)

OH! You have Chartreuse Wonder! OH!!!!!! Want to trade a leaf? I've got Kermit coming and I rec'd Leprechaun's Daydream last week. I also have Irish Flirt and Frozen in Time.

And I bet the person you're referring to on eBay starts w/ a "J". I cringe whenever I see their name too because it doesn't matter how much something cost, they'll get it.

Let me know about a possible trade.

Thanks,
Jeannine

You make me laugh. I did the exact same thing on Saturday. Started out at 4.50 and I zoomed it to 25.00. I kept my fingerg crossed that the next bid would come. I finally stopped cause I was afraid I would win.

Richmond, VA(Zone 7a)

We are BAAAAAAAAAD! :) I just kept bidding and it kept saying it wasn't high enough so I just kept right on going - until I was afraid I'd hit a number that was high enough!!!

Silver Spring, MD

Shhhhhh!!! Don't tell anyone.

Nevada, MO(Zone 6a)

Jeannine,

Sure, we can do a trade this spring. Just remind me and don't feel bad about bugging me--my life is crazy and I forget things.

lol--yes, the person's name starts with a "j." What happened, did they win the lottery? One day, I quit counting when I got to 30 plants that he/she had bids on.

I'm trying to talk my DH into a short vacation to CO in May to go to the AVSA convention. The bigtime commercial vendors go there--Lyndon Lyon, Rob's, Dave's Violets, etc. Plus, if you register for the convention, you can access the sales room before the public. I can get my violet fix there. There are also informative seminars you can attend during the day.

Tulsa, OK(Zone 6b)

The "j" person isn't as bad as elmicat. That one comes in and snatches em up at the last second. I wonder how many people she's outbid sent her a nasty email? I've wanted to but haven't.........................................yet.

Debbie

Silver Spring, MD

You go, Debbie!

Richmond, VA(Zone 7a)

I'm not familiar w/ elmicat but the 'j' person is just a hog! LOL! I know when I see a plant w/ their name to just forget it cause they'll get it. I've been so tempted to email them and ask them if we should schedule an intervention! You would not believe that I just did a quick total of the AV's they are bidding on that are currently ABOVE $10 and they are at $887.11 in bids!!!! Now that's probably about 25 or 30 plants at about $9 each for shipping which is about $250 shipping. CAN YOU BELIEVE THIS PERSON???? It's probably some rich person who doesn't have a care in the world and wants to collect every AV ever grown!!! I am So jealous!!! :)

Decatur, GA

It doesn't bother me that people bid high. On the first round a very rare plant can be very expensive. What bothers me is that they seem to buy more than one plant of these varieties-keeping the price up all the time. Others could bid on the same plants (if offered again) if "J" and Elmiecat could find contentment with just one plant. Put down a leaf, for goodnes sake. Lop off a crown. This "J" person is new to me. Elmiecat is not. I have flushed her out a few times on varieties that were important to me, just bidding and bidding until I found her number but it's a lot of trouble. At one point I thought about asking her if she would like to trade plants-she must have three of everything-but I am told that she doesn't respond to e-mails.
