Birdscrazy, I'm pretty sure that's a Rugosa as well - they are really easy to grow. Mine got way overgrown so I chopped the poor thing to the ground - and it's doing its durndest to come back!! It's in the driest part of my yard and I absolutely never watered it.

It really is a nice plant - delicate fragrance, pretty foliage, etc. The deer like it as well, but if you're right in the city of Portland you probably don't have that problem - lol!!!
LOL - when I lived in Seattle there was a family of four baby raccoons and they would sit in a planter box that hung near the top of the garage (their mother was always nearby, but didn't get in with them - thank goodness!). They would sit and just stare at us!! Needless to say, I quit planting anything in that container, but sure got a kick out of those babies!
