Can I feed the wild birds apples and oranges?
Will they eat it, and if yes, who?
Thank you, Christie
oranges and apples?
Mockingbirds will eat fruit. Sorry, just woke up can't think right till my second cup of coffee.
OOO yes! They may ignore the fruit at first but don't give up. Oranges are very popular at my house now. Like Pell said, mockingbirds will come and eat and I also get wrens pecking at the fruit. Robins will eat fruit too if its not offered in a perdhing type feeder. If you are REALLY lucky you might get some orioles! This summer I am going to put up an oriole nectar feeder with orages and grape jelly. I know they're in town but haven't seen them at my yard. If I have any fruit that is getting old I put and out and get takers.
Okay, so I just have to be patient.
I asked my husband to wake me up before 8, on a Saturday, so I can throw clothes on, and run to the front porch, camera ready!
So far, only the blue jays like the peanuts I sprinkled around the fruit.
I also put some mealworms out, but also, no succes.... yet...

most really love figs, raisins, and blueberries. I really don't get many fruit takers. Put out oranges and they just rot but still do it anyway just in case. Orioles are supposed to like them but have never seen them go to it but do see them go after my honeysuckle. Maybe honeysuckle is more appealing over the oranges???
I've read that birds can't digest citrus and currants. Interesting....
