Sure Thank Y'all for Aiding and Abetting!

(Zone 1)

Since joining DG in early October, I have learned so much from everyone! And, I blame all of y'all for enabling me in my endeavors! I have read about different types of soil, wicking, feeding, pot size, plant stands, lights and on and on. About a month ago I saw someone's post about a plant stand she bought at Wal-Mart and I just HAD to go out to Wal-Mart THAT very day and buy one of those stands, and of course I had to purchase the shop lights to attach to the stand! Then, I went around the house collecting all my AV's and a few other plants to put on the new plant stand! I am posting a photo and as you can see, it is so crowded that I now MUST go and purchase a second stand and lights ..... " See what y'all made me do"! I'm learning .... ane enjoying every minute of it! And, I think I'm becoming a much better "Plant Mom"!

I LOVE THIS GARDEN! Dave was a very wise man to plant this seed .... So much kindness and generosity planted here in DG Land!

Your stand looks good and you have some real nice plants. I resisted light stands until someone gave me one, I thought they were too much trouble, now I have 2 that are full of plants and wouldn't be without them..

Lookin' Good Lin! Oh I really love the stand and your lovely plants look awesome on it.Looks like with that nice big window you might be able to stick one more of those neat shelves right next to that one.If you need any help filling it just give me a holler : ) Oh and I totally agree with your comment about Daves. This is truly the best garden on earth : )

Thank You, Thank You .... for the nice comments, compliments! I love growing stuff .... and will just stick any ole' cutting in water to see if it will root ... sometimes I have good luck and sometimes not so good. I love all kinds of pots and jars for planting stuff too. If I can gather all my glass containers that I have stuff planted in, I will put them all together and take a photo and post it ....

Abilene, TX

That looks great! I think everyone is guilty as charged. : ) I love the terrarium jar on the bottome shelf. Where did you get that?

(Zone 1)

Hadfieldp: Got that one from Wal-Mart .... they come in a couple of different sizes, this was the largest. Makes a nice small terrarium planter!

Was it in the plant section or craft section? ???? : )

Silver Spring, MD

You've really done a wonderful work. So cheery looking. Well done!!!

(Zone 1)

It's in the section that sells dishes, glasses, pots & pans .... Housewares!

Ok, Thanks!!!

Very Welcome!

Lin, that is a great stand you have. May I ask what the set up cost? I bought a plant stand from an online source, I was just wondering in comparison how much less it would have cost me had I done a set up like yours.

Your plants look great. Funny, I"m thinking I may need another one myself.

Abilene, TX

Maureen, I have one of these, too. Mine is silver. This picture shows the lights I set up on it, if that is of any help.

Maureen: I got the stand from Wal-Mart for $29.99 and the lights are $7.96 each. They had the same flourescent lights, same size and brand, but labeled for plants ... for $9.96! They were the same EXACT lights .... I read the entire packages and it really makes me mad that they would do that. They were same wattage and bulb type ... everything, but the one marked for plants was $2 bucks more! They also had another stand that was taller and maybe a bit wider too for more money. The stands are not in the gardening dept, but rather in the hardware section, where you find tools and the lights! I got the idea from another DG'er who posted her photo's! Certainly much cheaper than something made exclusively for a plant stand! The only color they had at my Wal-Mart was black which was fine with me!

Lin, ours are different sizes. Yours is neat. Gives me a good idea when I need a second one, and, since I don't have the room for another the size I have, this gives me another possibility. : )

Elkins, AR(Zone 6b)

Lin you have the same set up I have and I love it. Yours looks fantastic! You did a GREAT job!

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

That's a great set-up and an outstanding collection -- your plants look so happy, just blooming away! You've got an eye for interesting containers... I'm looking forward to seeing more of the glass ones you mentioned using for your plants.

I've got a similar stand upstairs that's working out well for me. I use those green perma-nest trays on a lot of my shelf area, but somebody else had a neat idea with a metal stand like this... she put large tiles (I think they looked like green marble) covering the shelves, and it really gave her plant stand a decorative and "finished" look.

Tulsa, OK(Zone 6b)

Lin, your stand and plants are beautiful!!! Love some of your pots too!

I bought a stand like yours only 4' wide in Nov and I already need another one!! LOL I got mine at Low's but it looks just like yours. I'll try to get a pic to add to the thread later.

Critter, I an sooooo glad you posted about those perma nest trays. I got 10 when they were on sale and I love em. If they go on sale again, please post again or holler really loud from MD to OK. LOL

Pam your stand is super nice too !
Eunice put black marble tiles on her's so rich looking !
One thing nice about Maureen's stand is I do like how the trays drop in.
Their all nice set-up ! It's great seeing everyone's stands , different sizes, shapes, decorative to fit your styles and home decor !
Love all the beautiful plants your all growing !!

(Zone 1)

I love Maureen's stand too ... it is especially made for the purpose of plants, I believe! I just didn't want to spend that kind of money, and when I saw someone's post showing her stand from Wal-Mart, I just had to get one.

Love the idea of trays or tiles to set on top! One of the problems with the stand I have, is some size pots want to tilt. We have some porcelain tiles left from tile work a couple of years ago .... I'm going to locate a few right now and try it! Thanks for that suggestion!

Nevada, MO(Zone 6a)

Your plants look great! Very happy and healthy.

(Zone 1)

Than You! I had my DH go searching for the stash of ceramic & porcelain tiles left over from a year or two ago and now I have tiles on each shelf of the plant stand. What a difference! Now everything is sitting stable and I won't be vacuuming up dirt from knocking stuff over all the time!

(Zone 1)

Here's a photo of some of my new babies beginning to bloom. Got these from Bluebird Greenhouse a few weeks ago. They are doing really well. From Left to Right 'Nortex Honeycomb Haven', 'Rodeo Country' (just a bud showing), 'Pawmanok' and 'Pow Wow'. The large one at far right is one of 'Annabelle' that I got from Wal-Mart. I actually bought the last six they had of that one. You can see another 'Annabelle' in the back towards the left. Purple one in center back row is a Noid from Wal-Mart. Y'all are really aiding me in getting into AV's! I think this photo shows a couple more of the 'Annabelle' on the shelf below too.

Awesome Lin :)) Love your stnad with tiles. Easy to wash and yet the soil , water does not get on the floor and on light fixtures.
Your plants are beautiful :))

Nottingham, MD(Zone 7a)

Lin, your plant stand and plants are really very nice! Indoor light gardens are addicting, aren't they? Makes ya wonder how you ever lived without one. I just placed a second shoplight over my orchids. I hope that will encourage some nice Spring blooms. God help me if it does. I can see me running out to buy another stand, more lights and more orchids. LOL

I found these wrought iron plant stands, yesterday at Ikea. It really changed the look of the dinning room window. I'm trying to get use to it. The stands hold lots of plants. They were quite reasonable. Only 29.95.

All these edits are for spelling. No excuses. I'm just spelling challenged!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Those are beautiful, Nanna!!! Love em!

Abilene, TX

Nanna, how long have you been growing AVs? Your plants are bigger than mine are. My next project is to try to disbud a few plants and grow them out before letting them bloom. You got a good deal on the shelves! Pam

Silver Spring, MD

I started about 4 years ago. A friend gave me an av that belonged to her mother. Of course I had to buy a friend. No plant wants to be alone. Over the last two years I have tried to follow some of the suggestion about wick watering and disbudding. I have lost some beautiful plants to bugs and others to "not knowing what I was doing".

Right now I am trying to learn how to grow the violets with the leaves forming the perfect patterns of 3. It's hard to grow in the winter because of the heat problems. My plants really slow down and the leaves get smaller. Makes it hard to grow an evenly spaced plant. BUT it's fun to try.

The shelves were a real find. I went to Ikea just to spent time with my daughter and low and behold there the shelves were. I couldn't believe it.

Abilene, TX

And they jumped in your cart, didn't they? : )

(Zone 1)

Nanna: I LOVE those stands! I wish we had an Ikea store around here! I bet there's one in Orlando, but that's probably the closest I would find that store. I am going to check for their website .... those are really great stands and I have a couple of places I would like to put them! That's the same price I paid for the one I have from Wal-Mart, but I just love the size and the curves at the top of your ... sorta like narrow 'baker's racks'.

Silver Spring, MD

That's exactly what I thought, plantladylin. They are so sturdy and pleasant to look at even with nothing on them. Good luck. Hope you find them. SUCH A DEAL!!!!!

Tulsa, OK(Zone 6b)

Love those stands nanna, but I really Love that window!!!!

Debbie

(Zone 1)

I searched on the Ikea web site ... nothing like that anywhere .... boo hoo. I REALLY want a couple of those!

Silver Spring, MD

Hey avpam. Sorry I missed your post. You are right. They dive bombed into the cart.

Baja thanks. We will be moving in two years when DH retires. I will miss this house dearly. I'm with you about the window. I love it and so do the plants. It can get a little bright in the summer months but the area by the window allows me move the plant further away and still be able to walk by. Wish I could take the window with me when we move.

Silver Spring, MD

Sorry to hear that PL I know they are a regularly stocked item because the sign said reduced from last years price. Here is some more information:

RONNSKAR 900.937.64 AA-174977-2 is the number on the assemble sheet. Also the number 15540 is under the sku.

Hope this helps.

(Zone 1)

Nanna: Did a search and the nearest store to me is Atlanta Georgia! WAY TOO FAR for me to go - @ 7 hour drive! LOL

I'm gonna do some more research to see if I can possibly get a phone number and maybe order it .... depending on what it would cost for shipping.

Drat! Why can't they have a store in Orlando? Sure thought they would have at least one store in Florida, but I guess not.

Silver Spring, MD

Did the stock numbers help at all?

(Zone 1)

Oh Nanna: Yeah, I finally found it on line after an extensive search on their website. To order it I would need to call them, they have no on-line ordering. And, the shipping is $16, actually more, with tax and some other kind of charges they listed for handling! So, I guess I won't be getting one of those neat shelves! They also had other sizes ... small wall shelf, another about 3' tall, and also a corner one the same height as the two you got!

Boy do I wish we had an Ikea store in Florida!
