The last one was getting really long so I thought we could continue here on a new thread. Here's where we came from....http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/680924/
Hope you join me in posting some more quotes and general conversation!
Here's a few I found recently........

"In the End, we will remember not the words of our enemies, but the silence of our friends."
- Martin Luther King Jr. (1929-1968)
"When you do the common things in life in an uncommon way, you will command the attention of the world."
- George Washington Carver (1864-1943)
"Obstacles are those frightful things you see when you take your eyes off your goal."
- Henry Ford (1863-1947)
"Wise men make proverbs, but fools repeat them."
- Samuel Palmer (1805-80)
"Well-timed silence hath more eloquence than speech."
- Martin Fraquhar Tupper
"To sit alone with my conscience will be judgment enough for me."
- Charles William Stubbs
"Always do right- this will gratify some and astonish the rest."
- Mark Twain (1835-1910)
"The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing."
- Edmund Burke (1729-1797)
There is one other one I love but can not post it here due to DG rules.
D-mail me if your interested.
Do you have a favorite quote or saying? # 2
Onjaa pix,
With dial up it was getting long.
What Australian animal`s name means 'No Water' ?
koala
pixie62560, Good on you mate,
But you could have dragged it out for a bit. LOL
That is one of those facts that stuck with me from the National Geographic channel. Sorry, I should of let others answer first!!!
Oh..how cute! Don't think he'd like the snow we had again today though.
YES!!!
" If you don't mind--it does not matter"...............All hardships, pain, recoveries, etc. are "Mind over matter".......One can overcome almost anything--if they chose to do so!
Gita
You are right in 2 ways ,you know.
Most ppl call them a Koala Bear.
Don`t call them that to their face .
Because that`s more than A Koala can Bare.
They are related to the Kangaroo.
Did you know that ?
Good one Gita! Got more??
That I did not know.....will make a mental note. Thank you, your never to old to learn!
Pixie,
That article was too much like work for a Sat. morning.
Most of us love and value our children so much and we think it's universal. It's not. Some parents never feel the bond, others can't handle the stress, others find kids get in the way of their social life or career, others are just too twisted and in pain to be able to notice anyone's feeling but their own.
In my HO Dave, those are the ones they should of sterilized!! Sorry.......couldn't help myself.
No apology needed. It's too bad we can't restrict babies to people who really want them and can handle them.
Agreed. Far too many are mistreated physically, emotionally or both.
We are not primarily put on earth to see through each other but to see each other through.
unknown
Did you know Japan now make a camera ,
That sees through all types of clothing ?
I realize this in the "serious level", but.............
Years ago, I bought a "Woman's Planner Calendar", but it was of a Spiritual nature.
I like "Spiritual/Psychological" and there were a lot of wonderful quotes in it. All amazingly deep and touching.
To this day, I have a collection of these quotes. Geez! I could bore you all with the ones I saved, buit one of the most interesting/deep/simple ones was this one.
Here's the quote:
"MY life listens to yours". (by Muriel Rukneysner.)
I don't know about YOU! But this quote speaks volumes to me!
Now--you would have to be able to "internalize/psycologize" what this simple one-liner means. It would be all in how you perceive life.....how you see your OWN life!
What does it say to YOU???? Please share!
Gita
- Guests, like fish, begin to smell after three days.
- Early to bed and early to rise, makes a man healthy, wealthy, and wise.
- To find out a girl's faults, praise her to her girl friends.
- Beer is proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy.
- There are three faithful friends, an old wife, an old dog, and ready money.
- Experience is a dear teacher, and only fools will learn from no other.
- Wise men don't need advice. Fools won't take it.
- Life's tragedy is that we get old too soon and wise too late.
- God heals and the doctor takes the fee.
- Keep your eyes wide open before marriage, and half-shut afterwards.
Wow! PKG coming in with a bunch. I think that beer one is Ben Franklin's.
Gita, I like your quote.
Dave
PKG, you've got some good ones there. I just heard that 'God heals...' one on a M*A*S*H rerun the other day. LOL
Gigagal, I like yours, too. I don't know that I'd be able to get down in a few words here what it says to me.
One of my very favorite Benjamin Franklin quotes
for many years now:
"Marriage is like strong horseradish;
You can praise it and still have tears in your eyes."
Another favorite quote is by Edgar Watson Howe:
"A really busy person never knows how much he weighs."
I recently participated in my first co-op and am now in my second. I was reading thru all the co-op threads before joining so that I would have a good idea of what it was like and what was expected of me. Well I almost didn't do the co-op due to this one thread I read where a co-op went totally bad! Anyways, I am glad I did as it went very smoothly, but after reading that thread on the bad one this quote came to mind.
" Money is the root of all evil."
Pixie, that's "The LOVE of money is the root of all evil."
Everybody misquotes it - don't know why. It's short.
Glad you stayed with it.
Aim above morality.
Be not simply good;
be good for something.
-Henry David Thoreau
I like Thoreau's quotes ... he makes you want to get up and 'do something'!
toofew, good quote!
Mahnot..I stand corrected. Thank you and im glad you knew what I meant! LOL
Mahnot - the real quote makes much more sense to me. Thanks!
Pixie, glad you went with the co-op. I was in the bad one, but luckily I was one of the few who received my plants right away. So I quess I haven't been in a bad one yet.
Gitagal- that quote means to me, I am shallow and boring....LOL. Could you enlighten me? I'm the type who could never figure out, in literature class, that the 3 main characters actually represented the Holy Trinity and other deep things, if you know what I mean.
My life listen's to yours.....
How you talk to me will decide how I talk back to you and act towards you.
If there is sadness, I will feel sad.
If there is anger, I will feel it.
If there is need, I will give.
If there is love, I will grow.
What this quote means to me is that we all process how we see and feel about things others share with us from our own perspective, or "filter". A "filter" is a cumulative perspective we all have gathered all through our lives. It is all the opinions and all the judgements and all the prejudices, tolerances, respect, non-respect, etc. we form growing up and learning for significant others and as being a part of the communities we live in.
Our environment shapes us and our thoughts and social opinions.
SOOOO! If "My life listens to yours", I will be listening to it with all these pre-existing, acqured views on life and society and morals and prejudices that have been formed and aquired throughout my whole life. This is the "my life" part. "YOURS" of course will be built on the same foundations and will be the "your life" part. .
In the long run, in my humble opinion, no two people will process any shared information the same way BECAUSE of these "filters". I will always see what YOU tell me from ONLY my perspective. That is how I will "listen" to you. That is how I will "process" everything you tell me.
I know this is "deep"--as I said--but that is what it means to me. Because of it's complexity, I love this quote! No two people would see anyone else's life story the same way because of these dynamics.
Does this give anyone more food for thought on this????
Gita
OK! Now you have me going.
Here are a few other favorites from the same source..."Each Day" a year of new beginnings 1992.
"Anger is energy. It cannot be destroyed or forgotten. It has to be converted." (Leo Madden)
"The World breaks everyone. Then some become strong at the broken places."
(Ernest Hemmingway in "Farewell to Arms")
"It is healthier to see the good points of others than to analyze our own bad ones"
(Francois Sagan)
"Those that do not know how to weep with their whole heart do not know how to laugh either"
(Golda Meir)
"Problems have only the size and the power you give them" . (S.H.)
I have about 4 pages of these. Most of the others are too long to print here. I held tight to all these the year after my husband left me. It was like somehow, by reading these, it gave me hope and the energy to go on. That was 15 years ago. I still love every one of these quotes.
Hmmmmm...Wonder what THAT means?????
I am aware that I have a "depth" to me not too many people know or have acknowleged. My family just always said: "There she goes again!"....Analyzing everything!
Too bad! There is so much we never shared because of that. So much they missed.
Gita
Gita, your right...thats way deeper than me!
The quote from Golda Meir is one of my forgotten favorites. The S.H. qoute is one my Dad used to say to me, another forgotten favorite. Thank you for sharing amd bringing back nice memories.
Glad you found something to hold onto during those times, by walking out, it was his best gift to you... by the sounds of it. I have a somewhat different "depth" to me, no analyzing, just extreme sensitivity of feelings. Meaning I can't watch 'Hotel Rawanda" in a public place unless I want the world to know i'm a baby! LOL If I know it's true, and there is death, hardship, broken hearts, ect....I will, with out a doubt cry....like a baby. I can't watch Oprah for COL!! I have been like this since I was a little girl, my kids have a field day with it! They purposely pick out cards for B.D., Mothers D., ect... to see which one can make me cry. I really am a "tuffy" in other ways, but my empathy for people and my sensitivity makes me a walking target!! LOL
Me, too, pixie. I've been known to cry at commercials, especially involving the return of a soldier to his mom waiting on the old front porch.
People have told me I'm "too sensitive" but I can't help but wonder if they'd want me for a friend if I was "insensitive".... or maybe just sensitive to what they feel is worth it.
i tend to go to the funny quotes like --
you can lead a horse to water but a pencil must be lead
money doesn't make the world go round but it sure greases the axel
Pixie and pirl - I cry at commercials when I see puppies! They are sooooooooooooo cute. My Dad does this too (well maybe not for puppies - but other cute stuff) - so I think that we can blame it on our parents!
AYC - Then I'm thankful I have a piece of a great emotional gene pool.
Herbie - You can lead a horse to water but if you can make him lie on his back and float, then you got something.
Pirl, that reminds me:
"You can lead a [deleted] to culture, but you can't make her think"
pirl - lie on his back?? i can't even get hm to hiccup
Harper - that's a famous one by Dorothy Parker.
Herbie - don't stop trying.
