Hi!!
Can anyone tell me if Passion flowers grow easy from seed, and how long to get it blooming? I live in Pacific NW and ordered some seeds on line.

Passion flowers
Hi Kathy...Some Passiflora are up and at it after about 18 days. Still others can take up to a year or more to sprout. A good rule of thumb with Passies is SAVE YOUR SEED TRAYS! I just include them with my watering routine all year. Usually from bloom to seed is about 6 months, although some will flower when barely 18" tall. It depends on the variety and cultivation methods.
It also depends on how fresh the seeds are.
I have some edulis seeds I planted straight from the fruit after cleaning and have about 25 seedlings in 1 pots right now. I have others I planted from a trade at the same time that haven't done anything yet.
Hi!!
Thank you for the replies. I hope these seeds do ok than. Do you need to soak seeds before planting? And can I start seeds inside? I have unheated green house, but we had freezing temps with more to come they say. Usually we stay in high 30's to 40's this time of year.
Sorry for all the questions.
Take care,
Kathy
Kathy,
My humble opinion....
I have never soaked my Passiflora seeds before sowing. It's a great idea to start them indoors. But they really need warmth to germinate - 30's and 40's is much too cold. Find a warm bright spot indoors where the temps are at least 60F, but preferably 70F+. Keep them covered so the humidity stays high (but remove the covering for a bit regularly to give them fresh air). Then just keep them moist (not sopping wet), be patient, and squeal with delight when they germinate!
Good luck to you.
Erick
And I'm not one bit ashamed! LOL

A few years back I grew several variety's of passiflora's from seed. I soaked them in O.J. overnight before sowing them. They all came up so I guess I did it right.
