I noticed this blooming on my stand today. Is it a Chimera?? After my aunt passed away last year my sister and I each were given half of her plants and it has never bloomed until now.She collected av's for years but of course there is no record of what each is.I walked by the stand and had to back up and look again.Danged near dropped my camera.I thought surely someone on here will be able to tell me?

Could This Be A Chimera??
Very pretty. I don't know about the chimera part, but what a nice surprise!
Looks, Chimira to me. BUT, I don't know much. I just love AV's
It sure is pretty!

Could be. Try putting down a leaf or two and see what happens when the resulting plantlets bloom. If the blossoms are the same as your inherited plant, then most likely isn't a chimera. I know this process will take a while but will be interesting to see. You just might have a new chimera there, cedarnest. They happen by chance. Great!
Thanks Pam and Nanna.I just think it is so pretty too.Even if its not a Chimera I still think its cute as a button : )
Thank You Snow! I had no idea what to do.I will get a couple leaves put down tonight.I know it will take a long time before the leaves become blooming plants so I can compare but I won't mind the wait. Looking forward to my project.Hopefully in 6 or 8 months I should be able to share the results.I get excited just thinking about it.: )

Looks like it to me :)) They did an article in AVSA don't ask when my mind can't recall ( Might be some threads on this in forum here ) that a percentage of Chimera leaves bloom true , just like a percentage of their suckers do not.
Your Aunt could have owned it as a chimera or maybe it Sported !
Either way it's beautiful !
Wow, that is beautiful. Congrats on your chimera. What a special plant.
Either way, congrats on the beautiful plant, cedar! ; )
Nancy -
If the babies produced from a leaf look exactly like the mother plant, then it is not a chimera! An example is Bob's Omega - beautiful plant with a stripe which can be produced from a leaf.
If your plant is truely a chimera (which most likely it is), the only way to produce replicas of it is by sucker or bloomstalk. And even in this case, the babies can revert back to one of the parents.
I have a plant of Funambule (which is not a chimera), that mutated into Tanya's Beauty - a beautiful chimera. Another chimera that Funambule has produced is Ma's Wicked Witch! I topped my Tanya's Beauty and got seven babies from it. Five are Tanya's Beauty, one was a vivid double pink which I have given away. The final one is not going to be Tanya's Beauty either! I can see very dark buds that are either going to be white edged or a fantasy - back to Funambule again? I won't know for another week or so when they open. A very unstable plant that is for sure!!

Thanks NancyB,Wouldn't you know It doesn't have any suckers for me to take.Of course not! LOL
It wouldn't want to make it easier on me.I put down 2 leaves last night so now I will see what happens.I am pretty excited about it.Even if the resulting plants bloom true to mama I will love them anyway : ) Oh I am thankful to be learning.Your experience with them is facinating .It would have to be pretty exciting to experience first hand : )
Nancy
Do you know how to top the plant? Then you will get lots of suckers at the cut. If you need instructions, I'll be back online this afternoon or maybe someone else will provide the info by then.

I have never tried that.I would be willing to give it a shot.Someone would definitely need to guide me through it.My plants all cringe when they see me coming with a knife in my hand.
