Philodendron Imperial Wine

Miami, FL(Zone 10a)

Here is a photo of one of the new leaves of this lovely philo.
Accordingly to Dr. Croat, this is a hybrid of a few bred by
McCauley in Ft. Lauderdale. He claims that he has never seen it in the wild
Is unfortunately that it never was registered, because I think is a beautiful
representative of the genus philodendron

might be interested in a trade for this one LOL. I have something similar as well. I really need to get my photos up on my site you would have a blast looking at all the odd stuff I have photographed over the years. I have one huge folder with over 25,000 photos most are aroids but a bit of everything is in it. I have filed everything into their plant family groups and species or hybrids. Its a giant work in progress and I doubt it will ever be complete. But I hope to have a new version of it up on the web soon.

Hi Brian,
That collection of photos sound like a great idea, specially of my beloved philos.
My collection is up to 92 and always anxious to find the next one.
I have a large P. Imperial wine (hybrid, not registered ) available, if you are interested.
I wish you will sell me some of your philos out of EBAY as I am bad at bidding
and have lost a few of yours already.
Anyway,it was nice of you getting interested in my new philo, knowing that you have
almost everyone.
Stay well
Armando.

Armando: I bet you find nurseries down in your area who carry a lot of Philo's, don't you? I haven't seen many in Garden Centers or Nurseries in my area in many years! All you ever see here is the regular old hanging baskets of the heart leaf philodendron .... wish we could find some of the nice ones here.

Hi Lin,
Yes and no.
There are some but most of them carry the "everybodyhas " types.
I recomend MIAMIMAX ( Steven )
MIAMIMAX@BELLSOUTH.NET.
I get some of them at EBAY (Plant and seeds --Philodendrons )
also at OSCOMMERCE (Brian botanicals )
Also there is a place in Daytona by the sea. This woman have a nursery,
her husband died and I think she was trying to sell all plants especializing
in aroids (philos, alocasias etc. ). Don't mention my name, she is
Christian Perkings at TROPICALS@SOLUTIONSANALYSIS.NET
Good luck
Armando.

Armando I will be cutting many things come spring and I will keep you in mind when I do. I just got back from a trip to Atlantas botanical garden and a few other collector friends houses down south. I thought you might like to see this really cool philo. I may have the species name for it in one of my books but the gardens just had collected species on it now. It gets very hairy stems and likes it a bit cooler than most philos. Completely unique in my book. I have a nice start of it hopefully I will be able to grow it out well. This is going to be growing on my new wall section soon.

Hi Brian,
That new philo is exciting, the hairy stems (petioles) look
like the Squamiferum.
Please keep me in mind for new cuttings.
Armando.
