Acanthus mollis (Bear's Breeches) Invasive?

Colleyville, TX(Zone 8a)

I am thinking of planting Acanthus mollis (Bear's Breeches) . The reviews from California are mainly negative because it is hard to get rid of, once established. What about here in TX? Are other varieties better?

Interesting. Not invasive for me - I love it!

not for me either, in fact, even though planted in shade, mine shrinks in the summer, in protest. I think watering often or planting in very moist area is key for its growth, controlled or uncontrolled. I love big leaf plants

I got rid of some Elephant Ears in a wet spot. Those Bear's Breeches sound like what I'd like to have there. If I ever get rid of the tubers of the EEs.

It is a beautiful plant with or without the blooms. I usually don't worry too much about plants except that it will be near trees, so I want to protect the tree roots (hopefully not need to move the BB) Maybe our hot summers keep it in check.

The one I have planted near the crape myrtles does not do well. I think they suck the moisture that the A. mollis needs...Could be another reason, but that's my take. They do tend to suffer in the summer.
