frozen hummingbird feeders, HELLLP, they are mad!!!!

Hi, any ideas on how to keep the hummers drinking? Their feeders froze, and they are very upset about that!

Put a heat lamp pointed towards there.

Great, for this particular feeder I can do that. The other 5 will still freeze, but I'm sure they are smart birds, and they will find the liquid one quick!

Bring them inside one at a time until they are thawed; and always keep at least one indoors overnight to put out at the crack of dawn

5 feeders, you must have quite a lot of hummers. Good luck and let us know how everythings going.

Such simple solutions, yet I failed to come up with one... You must all think I don't use my brain :-)

I have about 5 birds, and one of them is extremely dominant; he even attacks ME if I am to close to HIS feeder (and in his opinion, they're ALL HIS)

I don't know how sharp or big this photo is, maybe you can see 5 humming feeders, 1 seed for blue jays, 2 for small birds, and 2 for finch.
It's like a "find the 7 differences", JEY!!

And then comes Spring, with hundreds of Starlings and Blackbirds! They live in the trees with the neighbours, only in Spring.
Every night before dark comes, they come and eat, wash and drink in my garden. I LIVE for that!

I know my poor old eyes are bad but I only see 1 hummer feeder. What are the silver lantern type things?

Pelletory, I may have posted a picture that didn't show them all. I'll post a picture that shows my whole front yard, maybe it'll be too small than, but give it a try!

The silver things are indeed lanterns for tealights, it looks great after dark, I'll post a picture of those after dark!

And theres also the thermal sock over the feeder,lol. As Resin said bringing a feeder or two in at night would probably be best.

I don't get any further than TITMOUSE... I'd be curious to know too, anybody take an educated guess?

By location, it is Oak Titmouse (previously known as Plain Titmouse). Juniper Titmouse is primarily in NV AZ NM UT CO, and only in the extreme east of CA.

oh, sorry, christie! well, YOU are darling then! after i wrote tufted titmouse i realized that california may have another kind. we have the tufted ones here.

I love the Titmouse. I have them here but rarely see them; their in and out so fast I can barely get a decent pic of them.

Christie, Behold, you have a beautiful yard! I love the 2 chairs, so you can sit and enjoy! do your neighbors think you are 'crazy' or do they enjoy the birds also?
Our neighbors put owls on their deck to keep 'our' wildbirds away. LOL

Christie - Your yard is adorable! It looks like you have the most interesting and bird friendly yard in the entire neighborhood. Maybe the other neighbors will be inspired. You've done a lot with such a small front yard. Do you have a backyard? (I know land is at a premium in CA.) I can't believe someone would put fake owls on their deck to scare away the birds. What's wrong with people like that??? (Maybe they don't like bird poop? lol)

Don't feel bad, I probably wouldn't have thought about the simple solution of your frozen feeders was to just bring them in. Duh. LOL

Of course, I have not had the good fortune of getting hummers to my yard. I'm on year 2 of trying. I have friends that live in the same area who have the Ruby Throat hummers. Most hummers in my area don't use feeders. They prefer flowers. Which makes it even more difficult for me to get them to my yard. I am growing a LOT of hummer nectar plants, but I think the hummers prefer mature large plants and all my plants are starters. Hopefully over time!
