Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

I don't know the botanical name, but it certainly has bloomed well all fall.

Well, I learn something new every day here on Dave's. I never knew Jatrophas came any other color than the orangy/reddish one that is commonly known as coral tree. I wonder what the common name is for the pink ones??????

BettyGail, that is one beautiful color.

Edited to say the coral tree is the J. multifida. J.integerrima is known as the spicy J.

Also, there are other pictures of the pink ones in the PlantFiles. Wow, where can we get these pretty colors??????

I live near the coast in south Texas....we have several nurseries in Rockport and surrounding areas....I would be happy later this spring and summer to get you a small one if I can find one again. These nurseries carry the most gorgeous tropicals, although I don't think of this as a tropical..my sister in law down the road has some red ones. Left unprotected, they freeze down to the ground and hers always come back. (I cover my up so they get a fast start in February again)

Thank you :-))))))))))

I also thought it was only red. I hope mine survives the cold spell we're having. Else I will have to go buy a pink and another red

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 9a)

The first year I had my red we had a cold spell and I thought mine was dead; it certainly appeared to be anyhow. Being the lazy type I just moved the pot it was in out of the way and forgot about it. One day I noticed new growth from the base. I was later told to treat it like a crape myrtle and if it died back to just wait.

I love this plant and have given lots away because they sprout so easily from seed. It will be interesting to see if the pink ones come true ffrom seed.

beautiful. I only thought there was the red and orangish ones too

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

I have a better idea..i grow everything from seeds. I also have 2 new heating mats which are 60" long each one with a thermostat. This spring I am going to try taking cuttings from the pink one...the red ones are readily available down here. Now if I can negotiate my way around this "new to me" site, I will get back to you who want pink ones. I love propagation of any plant.
If I knew how to gather seed, I would.....I just order my seeds new each year...

Definitely like the pink!!

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 9a)

My seeds take forever to ripen and then they suddenly shoot off to who knows where. I have learned to put tiny nylon bags over the pod as it ripens to catch the seeds before they are lost.

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

gee, thanks, ardesia for the brilliant suggestion of putting nylon bags over the pod as it ripens....the wind tore off 3 giant pods................I need to go to bed right now............I am talking about the desert rose and not the jatropha when it comes to seed pods..good nite....

This is an uncommon pink form of Jatropha integerrima. I've seen them before just a couple times - in the "unusual & uncommon" plants section or local collector sales. I like Jatrophas - I've passed on this one only because I'm just not a "pink" person, but it's a worthy purchase!

bettgail your is a beauty to! Did you see my deep pink one posted? Maybe we can do a trade later.
