bbq pork-want your combined knowledge

Folks,
There are hundreds of recipes out there, dozens of rubs, many injection methods, cooking techniques, and many more bbq sauces. They have many bbq competitions accross the US, and many of them are aired on cable TV. Kansas City seems to have one of the biggest. And there are countless very successful and popular bbq restaurants in every city.
But for the backyard fumbler like me, I have not been able to duplicate what the pros do. And I suspect that there are many people out there like me who would love to be able to create a bbq prize winner. I am convinced that our combined knowledge might just open a few doors into this extraordinarily popular menu item, whether it be bbq pork, bbq beef, bbq chicken, or bbq armadillo(not really, just kidding).
It is my hope that if enough people would like to focus on this topic, Dave's Garden might just create a Recipe sub-topic devoted strictly to the art of the barbeque. Please leave a comment. Ladies, if your hubby is the "backyard gourmet", please invite him to leave a comment.
If anyone out there thinks I am way off base, don't hesitate to say so.
