So frustrating!

Nevada, MO(Zone 6a)

So I haven't bought any AV's for a very long time and thought I'd check out e-bay. Well, apparently only two people now purchase plants on e-bay--elmiecat and jlmccrickard. I believe jlmccrickard is now getting ready to win the third Yukako this week. This person is bidding on a HUGE number of plants and has been and is willing to pay very high amounts of money for them. Very frustrating.

Sorry, but I just had to vent.

Madison, WI(Zone 4b)

I have decided not to buy on e-Bay unless there is a variety that I absolutely have to have and it isn't available from a commercial dealer. If you look at what he/she is paying for the chimeras - and that person is the high bidder on every single chimera - you can get far cheaper, and usually nicer plants from the commercial dealers. If anyone wants to know who I order from, please D-mail me privately.

So right Nancy ! Our Sticky has a LONGGGGGGGGGGGGG Long list of vendors selling the same plants !
Also there are always people that will share for postage or trade. That's the most fun about growing African violets ! Sharing them !

Abilene, TX

Yes, it is frustrating. I am looking for a plant that I can only find on EBAY so far, but I am not going to pay several dollars for a leaf and then spend 8.00 on shipping. I will wait it out. : )

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

What ya looking for Pam ??

Nevada, MO(Zone 6a)

Yes, there are vendors that sell a lot of the plants that are on e-bay, but many don't ship in winter. The only times I buy from e-bay are when a variety comes available that is rare/hard to find or it's winter. I wonder why more vendors don't ship in winter?

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

I think many don't ship in Winter beacasue of extra packaging and heat packs cost. Now Rob will ship but he will only gaurentee if express deleivery which I think starts at $22.00 ??
I know back a couple years ago when I bought about 200 plus heat packs with shipping they were still exspensive , then insulation and using all this there is still no guarantee they will make it alive and most Vendors don't want to deal with all this.
Then also a lot of Vendors are busy growing to get ready for Spring Shipping season ! Some Vendors start taking orders in September.
I guess if you don't want to wait for Spring ship then you have to bid high and pay the high shipping.
Or post and see if someone has a plant or leaves to share :))
