Do you have a community garden? Would you like to start one?
URBAN ROOTS COMMUNITY GARDENER TRAINING PROGRAM is a great opportunity
for
both new and experienced community gardeners!
The Urban Roots program is a 9-week course designed to train community
leaders in community organizing as well as horticulture skills. This
hands-on course teaches students the skills they need to create and
maintain strong, vibrant and sustainable community gardens. The course
has an organic gardening emphasis and is designed for gardens that are
producing some food. The course is open to residents of Wayne County
who
demonstrate involvement and/or interest in community gardening.
Enrollment is open to the public and all applications will be
considered.
Limited full scholarships are available to qualified applicants. Urban
Roots is an excellent opportunity for gardeners to improve their skills
and enable them to become leaders of their communities and create
sustainable community gardens. Incentives will be provided to
participants who attend at least 8 of the 9 classes, actively
participate,
and complete all Urban Roots assignments and a garden portfolio.
Urban Roots is a great course that is offered once a year. Space is
limited, so interested applicants should get their applications in as
early as possible. We're very excited to let you know that the
applications for the 2007 Urban Roots Program are now available.
