I think they are so pretty. My favorite aunt passed away and she always had them in her year when I was a child. LMK
Thanks,
Teresa
CLOSED: Anyone have extra old fashioned bleeding hearts?
Teresa, I've saw them at Lowe's and Walmart yesterday. You could probably buy them cheaper than shipping. Lowe's had red and white. If you just can't find any lmk, I can buy and ship them for you.
I have some that I could share. I've got the plain old ordinary pink ones. They are starting to crowd some of my hostas. How/when would one ship them?
Oh, thanks marie_ perhaps we can trade them in late Feb or March. I guess I jumped the gun. I have been looking thru a lot of garden magazines, books ect. today and I saw a pretty upclose pic of bleeding hearts. Maybe we could trade a couple of hosta eyes to add to the box. I haven't raised any before so I am clueless on BHs. Don't they need partial shade so they can be a companion to hosta? I have toad lilies, coral bells and lenton roses in my shade garden. The L. roses are blooming today :) I just love the dark burgundy ones!

Hey Teresa,
Bleeding Hearts can take quite a bit of sun, it's the heat they can't take. They will come up and bloom for a long time but when it starts getting HOT they turn yellow and go dormant for the summer. When they do that I just cut them off at the base (this is very hard to do!) and wait for next year! I have some I might can divide, but the roots are very brittle and break easily, so you have to be careful, although I have transplanted mine before and they survived and done ok.
Gail
They sure are beautiful flowers! The plant itself is very attractive, too.
Are you looking for the Dicentra or Clerodendrum ?
Yes, these were at my wal-mart too.. alba was 4 for $7.96 and pink same price. Good luck and happy gardening :)

I have bleeding heart vine. Its different from the one pictured from arkansas. If you want some for postage. It does spead a good bit but heat dont bother it and it blooms like crazy. covered my brick mailbox in about 4 weeks .. I will trade for some other plant or postage...Fran
Sendone2me, would you happen to have a pic? (I'll check PlantFiles too) and do you think it would be hardy up here in AR and/or KY?
Gail
Bleeding hearts can be mailed if they are padded. The have brittle roots that break easy, sort of like bean sprouts. I would dig them up before they sprout, shake off the extra soil then roll them in paper towels. You might also want to put that into a plastic bag but do not seal it.
bluegrassmom, I have dug a bleeding heart for you. Do you still want one? I can mail it out tomorrow....
Gail
HELLOOOOoooooooooo! Anybody out there? Teresa?
Gail, I sent you a dmail. Leslie, thanks for the offer but I ordered several clematis from the co-op and had better find them a place first.
Thanks
OK, I'll send it on (dmailing you back). I potted it up temporarily so it may be a little slow coming back around, but I think it'll be fine.
Gail
