are you still looking for alamo vine seeds?

Lakeland, FL(Zone 9b)

yes

west Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

well I have some if you will dmail me. I'll send them to you for a couple of stamps.

Carmel, NY(Zone 6b)

I fellow DGer ID'd mine as Passiflora Caerulea, but the foliage didn't seem quite right. I do believe you have it pegged, though! I'm very impressed!!!

She's doing great this winter, too. Last year she tolerated the winter indoors, but this year she's loving it! I know she won't flower inside, but I love getting the jumpstart on the season. I bring her pot out and tuck her in behind the hosta and she has a field day climbing up the Wishing Well. You make me eager to get some more seeds planted!!!

Lewisburg, KY(Zone 6a)

Wow, that is a pretty passion flower. I only have the wild ones. Do they germinate well from seed?

Lakeland, FL(Zone 9b)

i grow from seeds this one is p.foetida theres about six in this pot about 5 mnts old

Okay...dumb question here. Once you get the pollen, what do you do with it. i only have like 2 types of passionvine and trying to increase my garden by growing seeds but what the heck are doing with pollen?

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

Bluegrassmom, I am interested in seed from the wild ones -- do you think we could make a trade? I only have "other" seeds, no passionvine.

Suzy

Belleville, IL(Zone 6b)

sequee, the seeds are inside the fruit if it produces a flower a swollen ball appears where the flower falls off. The fruit has to be very ripe for the seeds to mature.

Port Saint Lucie, FL(Zone 9b)

Windy...I do havea flower that produced a swollen ball as you say when the flower was "capoot". They have since fallen off the plant and they are only about the size of a small grape. How do i know when it is ready? Do I open it? Will it then have a bunch of little seeds inside it or what? This is the first time I have a "Swollen ball" and need to kow where to go from start to finish. Can you help?

there should be seeds in the fruit open one and look Paul

Seale, AL(Zone 8b)

I have this one that gropws wild all over my yard and fence and feeds the butterflies. Have no idea what type it is. It has seed s pods ripening on it now.

I usally don't save the pod s from it. I get a slew of them. If you'd like some and can tell when to tell when it ripe enough to pick will gather it for ya if ya want.

Starlight, the balls get to about the size of a lemon. They usually shrivel up and sometimes even fall off of the vine. The fruit takes quite a while to ripen fully. The seeds are black and look like an apple seed with little dimples on it.
It is a messy procedure to get the seeds out because they are in pulp which is very slimey. I have tried several ways to get the seed out. You can put sand or course salt on a paper towel and rub the pulp loose. Or you can break open the fruit and smear it onto a hard surface and let the pulp dry and then take the seeds out.
I have even opened fruit and put it on the driveway for ants to eat and leave the seeds behind. The only problem I had with this is that some mice got into the fruit and ate it seeds and all. LOL
It definitely is a messy job to get to the seeds. If you can get someone to take the pulp and seeds and do it themselves, that might work. Put the smashed fruit into a ziploc, get all the air out and ship it in a bubble envelope. Of course you and the trader would have to agree that they want them that way.
Some people think they germinate faster if the pulp is left on.
I have these taking over the yard this year. The passiflora incarnata is the one you have. It is a wildflower here in Alabama. Hummingbirds like the flowers as do butterflies.

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

Hey! I need some of those Passiflora incarnata seeds -- or even the slimy, pulpy fruit would be okay. Yes, it is for the butterflies. It is supposedly hardy here, and we have the butterflies whose caterpillars eat it, I just have never seen it growing wild here.

Starlight, you sent me so much stuff already, I really do have stuff to trade!

Suzy

Port Saint Lucie, FL(Zone 9b)

starlight1153, Could i get some pods? I think they say once they are dry, to collect them. I have never seen one though so hopefully someone else can tell us when to collect them.

Flutter

Seale, AL(Zone 8b)

I will be glad to collect the pods and save them for everybody who would like them. I just went out and checke d them and they lemon size and still a somewhat hard green.

Just send me a dmail with the title "passion flower" on it, so when they ready I can send them off to ya. : )

LOL... Suzy.. I know ya got stuf f to trade. I just get alot of seed of soem things sometimes and I know I not gonna use it and rather than se e it go to waste would rather send it out and share it with folks. I glad ya ask and glad I can help. It all comes back around. Folks help me when I looking for something special and advice and help. We just all help wherever and whenever we can. That what gardening about. : )

Windy... Thanks for identifying it!!!!!!! All thes e years and I never knew. It been growing wild here for about 15 years. I try to keep it somewhat tamed into certain sections. Thanks f or telling me the hummers like them too. I didn't know that. Cool!!!!!!! I keep it and the butterfly weed in one section so the butterflies can have everythign they need in one spot. a " drive-threw" of sorts. LOL

Now that I know the hummer slike them too will keep a bigger section growing.

I don't think anything could be stinker or messier than cleaning hundreds of Ginkgo seeds. LOL

Seale, AL(Zone 8b)

Ok, thanks to Potem up, I finally foudn this thread. Thanks PotEm Up : )

Suzy and Maydreams27. The pod finaly fell off the vine and then couldn't remember how to get the gooey goop off. Definately not any easy process. you'd think you could suish one end the ona Kawano fruit and the seed would pop right out.

I got yoru seeds sittign on a plate and am cleanign as much goop off as I can and will get them out to ya in the mail hopefully friday.

Lakeland, FL(Zone 9b)

Leave the pulp on the seeds they Sprout faster and i belive it keeps the seeds viable for a long time ive had some sprout in seven days doing it that way just pick out the seeds but leave the slime on the seed some passion flowers make very small fruit like a big marble . not all fruit will change coulr but when the fruit gets soft the seeds should be ok paul

Danville, VA(Zone 7a)

I have a passion vine now that has at least 6 fruits on it the size of lemon... I will look for a picture ....
Susan

I can't find it now will look after work tomorrow... I also have a peach/orange one that is new this year but did not fruit...

Greensburg, PA

phicks, I have plenty of incarnata blooming, two different strains from different sources. One produces a long slender fruit, the other more round. I cannot distringuish the flowers from each other but can provide documentation of the commercial sources for both. Be happy to set up a trade and would be looking for seeds of another passiflora. D-mail me if interested.

Port Saint Lucie, FL(Zone 9b)

That is great Starlight but Phicks is right, just leave the pulp on. I had someone send me seeds in a little jewelry type ziplock (like 2x3 inches) I popped them right in the fridge for a while and then take them out of the cold and put them right on the heat mat after cleaning them off. You still have my address?

Chris "Flutter"

Seale, AL(Zone 8b)

Thanks for the info. Some of the seed have goop and some have been semi cleaned, wher e I had starte d before finally able to fidn my way back here, so hope maybe they will be ok.

I stil got your addy in my dmail Chris, but if ya got the time, resend it to me, wil save me looking back through tons of emails. Am I lazy or what. LOL : )
