Hello!!
Does any of the oldtimers remember an AV called Lemon Drop? I found it listed in an old publication that was printed here in Canada in the early 70's (they never put dates on stuff then!!!) but anyway I have a description but I can't find the hybridizer and one of the fellows in our group seems to think there was no yellows until at least the early 90's.
I think that because everyone's perception of color is different this could be the case here.
Appreciate any help!
Joanne
Vintage Canadian 70's or earlier
Hey Joanne,
The only Lemon Drop I see is one you probably have seen for yourself in FC....an S.Sorano 1995 cultivar.
Maybe the old Lemon Drop was not registered ??
Lemon Drop (8245) 07/28/1995 (S. Sorano) Double yellow and white pansy. Medium green, plain, heart-shaped, pointed, serrated. Semiminiature
They still say there are not real yellows. But were getting there. They are still trying for vibrant yellow ! For years everyone thought a yellow blossom was not possibility and then a mutant ( Sport) was discovered with traces of yellow pigments in the petals. The amount of yellow is still cariable and flowers don't last long as other colors, but sometimes the flowers are pure buttercup yellow ! Joanne for more read in your new book of Mel's Question #10 page 8 :))
I think they mean there are no solid , vidvid yellow blossoms yet.

Thanks Allison and Snowrose! Appreciate it....I have been searching trying to find another Lemon Drop but to no avail.
I will check Mel's Back to Basics as you suggested Allison.
Joanne
I just had another thought....it might not have even been a Canadian hybrid that this fellow was talking about.
Still hunting....
Joanne
