CLOSED: Tansy: Natures natural weapon against ants....

Lachine, MI

Spring Trade.
Did you know tansy planted in your garden and near your home is natures way of combatting ants?
Tho it can be invasive, cutting off the flowering heads will prevent this...its the root that does the work!
I have this for spring trades. White flower.
Look at my other want posts...maybe bulbs... or make offers.
Thank you,
Sandy

Sandy,

Does Tansy work on fire ants? I'm being over run!!! Do you have to plant a bunch or will just a little do the trick?

Fate, TX(Zone 8a)

i have never seen a white flowering one. all we get here is the yellow flowering one. they get huge here after they have been in the ground for awhile. and they do seed out even here in this part of texas.

Jerri11, thank you for responding! As far as I know ants are ants! Here we have a nasty red one that bites and it stings as well as several other types. All I can say is that I haven't any ants near my house, in my house or in my gardens.
I would love to trade...
I do apologize for being tardy in responding but today was my day with my age-ing mother.
Just let me know how many you'd like....be happy to trade.
Thank you,
Sandy
p.s. sent you a D-mail

Mamajack,
Mine is the white . Around these parts yellow is our wild one! This tansy will also grow in the shade.
Thanks for the note!

The plant files have one variety can be a noxious weed. http://davesgarden.com/pf/go/320/index.html I would want to be sure of which cultivar I was planting. I have more than my fair share of 'noxious' already in my yard.

Marie_ ,
Thank you for the post-This particuliar Tansy is not the Asteracae Vulgare! It is Tanacetum Marcrophyllum -Tansy Daisy. Its characteristics : fern leaf foliage and flower head resembles a very large yarrow head of white. It is a very thick plant, meaning has girth and substance to it. I have stated that this particuliar plant can be invasive....however by cutting off seed head before spent, stops that problem. The Asteracea Vulgare is the one we have growing wild here in my part of the US.
This plant originated from the K. Bluemel nursery. It is showy as well as functional!
Thanks for the note!

Hey there Sandy,

I am primarily interested in shade perrenials. I lost my Jack Frost brunnera a few years ago, and would like to add another brunnera. I am solidly in zone 4. This year may be a warmer winter, but I lost Jack Frost during a zone 3 type winter. You'd think that with a name like that he could have survived. LOL

What could you use in trade from a shade garden?

Marie
