A surprise at my house

My houseplants have been seriously lacking attention lately, but a few days ago I noticed these buds on my Clivia. First time it will bloom, and totally unexpected now.

There are a few other plants blooming too just to give us some winter colour.

As there seems to be some interest in holiday cactuses right now, here are some of mine that are blooming now.

Wow, you do have a green hand, echoes! Those are lovely.

Thanks for the nice comments. I don't have success with them all, for sure. But then I'm not going to show you pics of the languishing ones. haha.

I have one amarylis about to bloom too. The only one out of about 9 mature ones that could be blooming. It's a seedling of some I started a couple of years ago. Another first. Firsts are always fun.

My passiflora caerulea bloomed a bit a couple of times, but missed being with this bunch by a few days.

Be sure to post a picture when your Clivia blooms Brenda.

Still in bud Echoes? Make sure livestock doesn't decide to investigate.

Ha, ha. Two buds are sort of open. When they are full I will post another pic. Kitties don't seem too intersted.

Way to go Echos! Out of all my indoor plants .............. 0 ...........are blooming. My african violets should be blooming but I ticked them off when I took them outside for the summer. I won't be doing that again.

echoes..........Thanks for all the color. I just love the abutilons. Mine are all dormant outside. I never thought about bringing them indoors for some color. You won't mind if I steal your idea next year:) I just picked up another one the other day it is called Super red. It is dormant too and once I saw this I brought it inside to see if it will take off early.I also have naboo (deep red)so will have to compare the two red in the spring/summer when they are both in bloom. Is your red from the bella series? They are all so pretty.

Why are we waiting, why are we waiting (music)

Take a hairblower to it or put it in bathroom under a light ----

Just kidding but thinking about your clivia lots here.

haha your too funny! tempting though

Bea

Steve, I have only one AV blooming, and it's not worth a photo. I took leaves and started babies on most of them and threw the mother plants out. Of course I bought a couple of new ones since, but they are finished blooming. It will be awhile til my babies bloom I guess.

Bea, the Abutilons are all Bellas I bought, except one is from seed. I have just one that isn't a Bella, Huntington's Pink. You won't be stealing any ideas from me. Big difference from your zone to mine. I would have to get new ones, if I left mine outside.

I could smell this hoya blooming but couldn't find any blossoms till I started looking real hard under the leaves, and then I had to pull it out, so it got a bit smooshed. I have been told it is H. mostokei.

This one is for Pam. I think this is the plant she like from my last trip to Schriemers. This small one at Rona was only a couple of bucks.

Thumbnail by echoes

I like to get to Rona every week or so just to soak up some summer. I consider it my weekly warm holiday. So I have to treat myself to lift my spirits of course.

Thumbnail by echoes

Oh yes, and the Clivia.

Thumbnail by echoes

Difficult to get a close up but this seems to be the best one I have.

Echoes, I love the Clivia! Are they difficult? I'll have to put it on my 'need' list.
I like your flowering mapels, I also have the Bella pink, it's quite nice. I just ordered some seeds of them. Do you take yours outdoors for the summer?

Happy Indoor Gardening!
Steven

Thanks Steve. No they are not very diificut. I use the Abutilons in planters.

(Zone 6a)

Do you keep them in sun or shade?

Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3b)

I knew I should've avoided this thread! echoes all are lovely but oh my that Clivia takes my breath away! Ü

Victoria BC, Canada(Zone 9a)

Oh Echoes you stole my heart with that last abutilon and the clivia. Just gorgeous.

SW_gardener... I keep my abutilons in morning sun and afternoon shade. I have also let mine go dormant each fall until now that is:) I will try a couple over winter just like echoes for some winter color. They can take a light frost and will go dormant from there. We has -8 for a few days and mine did fine. They loose their leaves and in the spring I prune them up a bit for shape and they regrow come spring when it warms up.
For you folks east of here you can always push the zone by putting them into a heated but cold garage for the winter if you don't have room inside. I tried all sorts of tropicals this winter that I am anticipating will come alive this spring. We kept the garage just above freezing. Just to claify my abutilons were outside, I kept things like gingers, heliconas and passifloras, dormant in the garage.

Bea

Thanks Bea and Pam. Yes Steve, what Bea said.

Last bloomer here for a while, an Amarylis that I started from seed a couple of years ago. The mother was Donau.
