I've got a few hundred habanero gold pepper seeds that I have saved from this last year's harvest. I give them away in concert with another offer I have on eBay. But I have more than I can ever use or give away. If anyone out there would like to try growing a really hot, hot pepper, all I need is a SASE. (by the way, what is a SASBE?)
Can't guarantee the germination rate of my saved seeds. But if I send you about 20-30 seeds, surely 1 or 2 ought to sprout, don't you think?
habanero seeds - yours for the asking
self address stamped bubble envelope :o)
Connie
Pepsi,
OK, now I know what an SASBE is. It includes the word bubble. Ain't that neat! But unless you think that the bubbles are really necessary, I was planning to send a very small zip lock, triple folded within a couple of sheets of 8x11 stationary. It's your choice, of course. The seeds are yours, and I am happy to oblige.
By the by, Pepsi, do you know anybody who might have a few seeds of the "chocolate habanero"? Yeah, I thought not. They are hard to come by. And they aren't cheap on eBay.
i think my hubby would love to try these,how hot are they? my mil would love them too plmk and thxs
Hello, I was just answering your question on the sasbe, I really didn't want any of the seeds, but thanks for the offer. :o) "chocolate habanero"? had neverheard of them til now lol
Connie
Moretz,
Frankly, habanero peppers are just about the hottest peppers out there. You might find them for sale in your local grocery store by mid-summer. If you have ever tasted or eaten jalapenos, you should know that habaneros are roughly 30-40 times hotter than a jalapeno. Habaneros rank on the Scoville heat scale at between 200,000 and 300,000 heat units. Jalapenos rank at about 30,000 or less.
From your msg I do not understand your abbreviation 'mil' and 'plmk' Please clarify, as Mr. Data would ask.
I should add that hot peppers, like habaneros, need warm soil in order to germinate. In most climates it would be best to start indoors, in a location that is somewhat warmer than what would be comfortable for you and me. Do this -- put your hand on the top of your fridge. If you feel an area of your fridge top that is warmer than your hand, it would make an ideal area to germinate the seeds.
mil= mother in law
plmk=please let me know
lol
i think he would love to ry these is your addy in the exchange?
plmk
moretz
pepsi,
Yes, chocolate habs are out there and they ain't cheap. But being in Michigan, it doens't surprise me that you've never heard of them. That far north, it would be like me asking you if you would like me to send you a banana tree.
Oh another Treky fan :o)
Connie
Moretz,
You are one savvy character. What's an 'addy'? Oh, who the hell cares! You send me one more msg I don't understand, and I'm just going to send you a boatload of seeds whether you want them or not. "Vengeance is mine, saith me". :-)
addy=address

Pepsi,
Can't help it. Been watching startrek re-runs for as long as I can remember. Probably seen every one of them at least twice. Kinda like MASH. They never really get old.
I would say yes to a banana tree rofl (rolling on floor laughing) ;-}
Connie
True True, DH (dear hubby) and I have been watching them since they first came out :o)

Connie
OK Moretz,
Get your butt off the floor and telll me how I can share my address with you without telling the whole world.
do you know how to do a dmail?
dmail=daves mail through daves garden?
Pepsi,
You're a lady after my own heart. Just get rid of DH and I will bring a banana tree with me. We can kick back, watch StarTrek and eat bananas like a tree full of monkeys. Oh, what fun!
Moretz, I'll try to figure it out.
to make chili with habs , you take a needle and thread . pass the needle and thread
through the hab pepper , remove the needle from the thread and toss the pepper out
and put the thread in the chili.. hehehe
sparky, what the heck did you just say?
Better throw the needle out too, so you don't accidentally use it to try to dig a sliver out. OUCH!
Moretz, Looked around this site. Haven't figured out how to send you a personal msg. Any hints?
Click on Moretz's name in this thread, above her town, and it will take you to her home page where you have the option of sending her a dmail.
Who is this UBER, JoanJ, from North Dakota, no less? Didn't know the internet worked underneath 6 feet of snow and ice! Don't mean to tease or antagonize, but here in North Florida I am still growing my veggies. Still picking tomatoes, peppers, eggplants. Long range forecast says that at least as far into the future, (Jan 16) mild temps will continue. Hi temps in the mid 70's, lows in the mid 50's.
Love to hear from you Joan. But try not to stutter from the cold.
blmlb - I don't have any chocolate habanero seeds to offer, but Bayou Trader has them at a reasonable price:
http://www.bayoutraders.com/capsicum_chinense.html
Well, I'm not growing any veggies right now. The only thing I am growing is impatient for spring. :)
Believe it or not, we hardly have any snow cover and it got into the 40's today. However the lack of snowcover is going to be a problem when it gets down into the below zero range starting later tonight. Then I will be stuttering, because then it will be c-c-c-cold! On the bright side, spring is only about 4 months away.
I love habanero's, but I don't have much luck growing them here. Gee, I wonder why? LOL
Johns,
I appreciate your link, but fact is, ain't no way I will ever spend $2.75 for 15 seeds of anything. If all the seed hustlers out there had to depend on people like me, they would all go out of business within a few months. That includes Burpees, Parks, etc.
Miss Joan UBER J,
Of course you aren't growing anything right now. Icicles don't qualify as veggies. 4 months until you get to spring? (Sorry, I just can't help teasing you. I'm still picking peppers and tomatoes.)
What you stated, though, is important for others to understand. The habanero seeds I am happy to share with others are not really good choices for those who live in northern climes. Indeed, even if the seeds are started indoors and nurtured for 8 weeks indoors, they still need nearly 3 months of growing before they will produce a reasonable crop.
A lot of what grows down here doesn't grow up there.
Oh Lord rofl
Pepsi,
Sounds like you're enjoying the hell out of this. Kinda fun, isn't it. You sure you dont want a few seeds?
Actually, we can grow habaneros up here, it just takes a little more work and perseverance. Have to have the row covers handy all the time except July and August. We have a pretty good growing season from Mid May to Mid September, so that's a good 4 months. Late spring frosts and early fall frosts we can deal with if we are prepared and have lots of row covers and blankets close to the gardens. I'm not always that diligent.
yes it worked and dmailed you back lol
My gosh Joan,
I applaud your perseverance. But as you have indicated, growing hot peppers at your end of the world is not very easy to do. Only a hardcore gardener would even attempt it.
In that regard, my offer to send seeds to anybody who wants them should probably be tempered by the caveat that high latitude climates shoud not even bother to ask, simply because it's tough to grow'em.
By the same token, I would not discourage anybody, whether in Looziana or Queebek. You want'em, you got'em. It's my treat, and for the cost of a SASE, you can't beat the deal.
No blmlb, but thanks for asking, and yes I am enjoying this :o)
cg
This is one really "HOT" thread that bringing tears to my eyes. LOL ( laughing out loud) I love it. : ))
OK starlight, Just keep laughing and I will send you some unsolicited seeds as well. Remember, I know where you live. ;-)
Welcome to DG, blmlb! I hope you'll find your way over to the pepper forum.... discussion is starting to heat up over there (LOL) as we all flip through our seed catalogs and try to plan our next pepper patch!
I have one trade pack of 'Chocolate Habanero' left from last year (grown/harvested in 2005), and you are welcome to it for SASBE, since you're being so generous with your golden habs. Please note that I didn't bag blooms or isolate plants, so crossing might have occurred. But I did get reports that the 'Red Savina' at least grew out true, and nobody has told me otherwise about the Chocolate habs, so hopefully they'll be fine. I didn't grow habs last year, but we'll be planting them again this year.
Dmail me, and I'll send you a list of other extras I have. If you don't want older seeds or non-isolated ones, that's fine too. :-)
OK, CRITTER!!!!!
I just knew somebody out there had the good grits I was looking for. My SASBE will be in the mail to you in the next 2-3 days.
I never mentioned it, but I also have a limited number of seeds of the Datil pepper. Most folks really don't know what it is because you cannot find it in any of the major seed catalogues. Hot as a habanero, but with a delayed mouth reaction. Datils kill the back of your throat, rather than the tip of your tongue or your lips.
You want a few, I'd be happy to send you a few. Somehow, an SASBE seems like overkill. Just send me an SASE. You will get plenty of seeds, even if a few get smooshed by the USPS.
No thanks on the Datil... I think 'Red Savina' is as hot as we'll want to get, although I may start just 1 or 2 plants from seeds of 'Naga Morich' (I think) that Michael recently sent me... He sent me the whole pepper, and the teeniest speck of it nearly blew my head off! I don't think it has any flavor other than "pain," but I dried the peppers, and if you want I can check to see if the seeds look good.
You're probably right that SASE would work for just a few 'Chocolate Hab' seeds, but I figured you should send SASBE just in case you want something additional... Regular envelopes tend to get sent through the machines, even if they're marked and have enough postage for hand-cancelling, so I just go with BEs for seeds.
:-)
LOL... If I wasn't such a tenderfoot, I'd tell ya to bring em on. A nice sweet banana pepper is about as hot as I can handle. Ya I'm a wimp in the first degree. : ) Probably the only person who goes to a Mexican restraunt, orders, tells them to leave off the halapeno peppers and bring a bottle of catsup instead.
Glad Critterologist had some of the Chocolate. Looked through all my catalogs and couldn't even find it listed anywheres.
Wonder how many gallons of milk do ya have to drink even licking the outside of one of them things.
