New Seedling Flower

Ventura, United States(Zone 10b)

This one just opened for me the other day in the greenhouse. I like it! It flowered after 37 months from seed.

It starts out with a bit of orange in the center, but that fades to yellow fairly quickly.

This one just opened up a few days ago also. This is the cultivar 'Nassau.' I am detecting only a soft rose fragrance from the flowers.

This one is still blooming its head off. It's 'Gold Coast Peachy,' which I got from Brad. Thanks, Brad!

'Grove Farm' does a bit of a twist in high heat, it seems. It has one of my favorite fragrances.

This is 'Lady Red' still putting out a bloom here and there.

This is one of my favorite reds called 'Jana's Curly Pink' for now.

I've seen this one called a few different names so I'm leaving it nameless for now. It is a cultivar from Hawaii, and it has a strong fragrance of carnations.

Here is 'Nassau' again from Suki. Thank you, Suki!

Last but not least, it's a family member of plumeria: Adenium 'Noble Concubine' blooming again in the greenhouse. Thanks, Brad!

37 months??? Now THAT is commitment!!! I had no idea they can take that long.

They sure are beautiful though.

Thanks, mg. Yeah, I started a batch of seeds back in December, 2003. Out of those 40 seeds, about 10 have bloomed so far, and a couple more of them have inflo's in the greenhouse. It looks like the majority of them will wait until Year 4 or possibly Year 5 to bloom if I am lucky. Waiting for seedlings to bloom certainly does take patience, it seems, but it is really fun to see a new bloom open for the first time.

Geneva, FL(Zone 9b)

NIce, Clare! Just wait until the warmer weather brings out the clors even more! GCP is a bit darker in hot weather and more vibrant. The scent will also be to die for! Nassau is also one of my faves for fragrance---you'll see once it warms up. It reminds me of the scent of Florida wild pflox.

I bet that seedling is going to really be even more of a WOW once it warms up. :-)

Clare unbelievably beautiful; the blooms and outstanding photos. I can't believe you have blooms this time of year!! ~R~

Ventura, United States(Zone 10b)

Thanks, Brad. You are so right. I always forget that scent is diminished in the winter. I can't wait for warm weather again. It was 34 here last night for a few hours, and it is supposed to drop below freeze tonight. I'll be busy today stringing up tarps. I hope you and your plants are staying warm where you are.

Thanks so much, Rosa! Yeah, I can't believe it either because I am not heating the greenhouse, but it does get very warm in there during the daytime, like in the 90's and even over 100. There are even a few blooming outside still against the house and on the patio, but the blooms are fairly small and lighter than usual. I feel lucky for sure.

Davie, FL(Zone 10b)

Hey thanks, Buddy. The two you sent me are happily rooting away. That was such a thoughful gift, Robert. I can't wait to see them flourish. Here is my new seedling, taken yesterday.
