Bird Food (Wild)
Hi Dimmer, Are you talking about making suet for outdoor birds?
What ever it takes can you use things like peanutbutter? Criso, bird food how would you put on trees
My Suet Recipe is
1 c. Lard
1 c. Peanutbutter extra chunky
1/4 c sugar
4 c yellow corn meal
1/2 to 1 c plain flour
Bird seed your choice but you really don't need it
I start out with my mixer and end up finishing by hand with a heavy wooden spoon. Most of the time I can't use the flour because it is to thick. If you have a heavy duty mixer you can use that starting with the beaters then change to dough hooks when it get thick
I have quite a few "natural" peanut butter feeders. I find a piece of wood that has nooks and crannies in it, screw in an eye hook and hang from trees with a cable tie. For the food I mix peanut butter, bird seed and quick oats...till it looks good or my arm gets tired...whichever comes first. LOL Then I spread it on the hanging pieces of wood. The birds LOVE it. I only put it out in fall/winter as it gets too hot here in the summer.
Dimmer,
I have been just slathering on JIF extra chrunchy peanut butter since December 2000 on an old wooden farm fence post. The birds love it!
I don't have any recipes, but I'm thinking it would be a great idea for the birds to have some.
This is a photo of a female Red Belly Woodpecker getting some.
