And here is one problem...........this is a NOID, I think, and it seems to be growing a million plants off of it everywhere..................why? It gets the same light, water, heat and humidity that the others get.....

Lauri~ I'm sure the experts will be here soon, but in the meantime...It just looks like your first plant is either a trailer OR has suffered some stress that has caused it to sucker like mad. Seems like different plants need different care. Under the same conditions, some will do great and some won't.

Can you get another shot of the second problem, with the light green new growth? Are there other growing issues going on with this plant? Like deformed leaves or stunted growth?

I'll be watching for your answers with you :) Good Luck!

Hey Lauri,

My very small understanding of multiplanting is that some varieties just do it. That is very good if it is a chimira but troubling if not. The suckers take the energy away from the blooms. The only thing I know to do is keeping removing the suckers when they are very small (or when you determine it is a sucker and not a bloom). A bloom boosting fertilizer MIGHT help but might not.

Is this the first time the leaves in the middle of the second plant have turned lighter?

I can't see your Beloved Daughter well. Is it the Russian one ?? I fount that Beloved daughter does better in natural light.

Allison,
Yes that is the Beloved Daughter that you sent me a while back...I'll have to move her into a window during the day and then out in during the nights and see if that helps...

Bloom boosting fertilizer?? What kind?? I only use VF-11.....

The ones with suckers are from WalMart I believe, or HD can't remember which and were rescues with no labels...so I guess I'll try removing the suckers and see what happens...

So.... now do you plant up the suckers or just junk them?? LOL like I need more but one never knows...

Lauri Hi ! How does that litle one with the suckers bloom what color ? It may make a great trader !! You could keep the best ones. It does look like when you do take all the suckers off you may have a plant with bare neck. When this happens I like to cut the plant off from soil and re-root. It will root fast and most likly give you a nice plant ! Some people plant the neck lower, or wrap moist moss around it and so on but I fount starting over all new roots which it will root fast makes a nice healthy new plant which will be blooming in no time.
I have a friend who has a rare plant she brought it for me to take babies off . They were so small maybe 1/4 to 1/2 the size of a dime. I was proud they all came off great ! She gave me one which I started in a one inch pot and it's now in a 2 oz. dixie cup ! It does not get much light so slow growing but seems very happy !
Beloved Daughter foliage is dark and I have never seen it yellow like this before . But the foliage also seem more compact than the ones I have grown so I am hoping it's two much light . You will find out soon ! Has she been blooming for you ? Plants after a strong blooming period
will also have small crowns , ..... as the flowers block the foliage from getting light .

If you remove crowns and end up with a small single-crowned plant with a long neck, you can cut and re-root, or you might be able to repot it (deep enough to bury the neck) with some roots attached.... There's a good description in the culture pages at Rob's on dealing with "necks" on AVs. See http://www.robsviolet.com/repotting_violets.htm and http://www.robsviolet.com/faq_page_2.htm#necks1.

Rob also has a concise explanation about crown suckers here, http://www.robsviolet.com/faq_page_6.htm#crown%20suckers. And when I looked for that link, I noticed a section of his FAQ suggesting that yellowing center leaves could also indicate a pH problem...

I love the group photo of your lovelies at the top of this thread -- what a trio!

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Heh hehe I said the same thing :)) Good link one Jill showing the process :)) I don't get link two or three Jill maybe the links got mixed up they did not go along with the problems ?
I do know the 12 different Russian plants I grew likes end of tube or natural light ! Maybe Beloved Daughter is going to sport to crown variegation ..well you never know the first crown / champion foliage was a sport.
Ok give it a week or two in natural light and see how it does. When is the last time it was re-potted into new soil and pot ?
Have to find some threads with this plant take a peak at it. It's an awesome plant. Now if I can recall it's Russian name.
I gave several of her away anyone else have one ??
Jill has you home settled down ? Holiday company gone ? Sounds like you had a long wonderful family Holiday season :)) Blessings !

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

ahh, apparantly you have to scroll down on the FAQ page to get to the right question.... sorry, didn't realize that, since the internal links on the site take you to the right spot on the page!

The last holiday company (my parents) left yesterday... we're re-adjusting! LOL

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Oh Ok I'll scrll ee if I can find it thanks ! WOW you had a gret Holiday Season ! Are you tired ?

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

We did have a wonderful holiday season! Company for 3 weeks, with just a couple of 1-day breaks to wash sheets and towels... actually, I think I'm more energized than tired, except that it's "that time" now for me, which means migraines. Well, this too shall pass... and hopefully before the weekend, as we have plans to visit friends and godchildren, maybe even stay over on Saturday night...

Sorry, Laurie, I know we've gone completely off-topic with our "catching up!"

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Lauri hope your feeling better ! Your in my prayers :)) I got my package from you today your the best Peep ! I love everything :)) I can't thank you enough !

Caistor, United Kingdom(Zone 8b)

LOL Jill I don't mind at all....Love to hear all is great with everyone!! Thanks that is my pile of NOIDs...

Allison, on the tag you sent with Beloved Daughter it says her Russian name is...Lubimaia Dochka. I have taken her out from under the lights and put her in the kitchen window and will see. I have just repotted her with fresh dirt and new wick.

Lauri

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Alright Lauri ! Thanks helping my forget mind :))
Lubimaia Dochka (9613) 01/27/2006 (B. Makuni) Single light lavender-lilac large frilled pansy/purple edge. Dark green, ovate, scalloped. Standard
Her foliage is very dark. Awesome plant. I know I gave several of her away and leaves here on DG's hope to see them blooming someday and their leaves being shared with others too !
Good to take your plants off of windowsill at night as it will get cold ten degrees colder than room. Even here mine come off. We have been having nights 41-high 50's. Has she bloomed yet ? I hope she gets back into her dark beautiful outfit mabye she wanted some colorful accents added to her wardrobe for a bit. lol
The Russina hybridiers have small apartments with not much growing room and much of the plants are in nautural light !
Can't wait to see her new dress in a few weeks ! Her foliage looks like it needs some natural light as it looks to close together and this will give her better form/symentry which is another reason I fount Russian Av's like natural light too !
Happy Growing ! 2007 Share a leaf and plant with a friedn this year ! Keep Av's growing !
