Sunshine trees are budding

Norwalk, IA(Zone 5b)

My sunshine trees didn't even defoliate this winter and the buds are coming.I have about 9 kinds of coral trees from seeds now.Even the one year old seedlings are full of buds this year. YEA!!!!

Look at this one, 7 inch pot and less than a year old.Ery. indica variegata(green form) notice all the bloom spikes on the tips. The plant is about 6 1/2 ft tall.

Cool the way the buds spikes go out at an angle like that. I have never seen the E. indica before. I have the bidwilii and the native herbecea (sp?) in the ground here and the bidwilii still has it's leaves.

But, what is that beautiful specimen in the pot on the bench on the right?

East Texas, United States(Zone 8a)

ardesia, some type of prayer plant, I think. It always amazes me how we notice things in pictures that were just "background" for the person that posted itl

I have seen that sunshine tree planted in rows in Cozumel, Mexico, It is so stunning.. I started fantasysing (sp?) about planting those trees and then underplanting with daylilies, no, roses, no lilies; all yellow? multicolor?? It is called GARDENING MADNESS

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 9a)

LOL, I have that malady too.

Not the prayer plant, the big one in the 3 gallon pot; it has beautiful red flowers.

And, since Vossner mentioned that prayer plant............ Kyle, I am so glad to now you are normal and have plants that look like that one in addition to all your magnificent and healthy specimens.
(I bet your boss grew that one.)

I am definitely jealous. I love the trees. I just cannot figure out how to obtain a large enough greenhouse for all of my wants or maybe that is needs.

Ahhhhh, Tigerlily, I think you are right. Now I really want one of those but I need another tender tropical like that proverbial hole in my head.

Closeup of a sunshine tree leaf. A very good friend of mine sent me the cuttings originally, I am eternally grateful for them.

awsome Kyle. I have 9 or 10 different ones too. If you get seeds on your Sunshine tree I would love some. The variegated leaf Indica is the only seed I haven't able to get my hands on. Have to get with you to see if you want a couple of my extra seedlings if you don't already have them. The regular Indica got so big DH had to cut the top out of it to fit it in the garage. I have Cristi-gallii, Bidwillii, Caffra, Herbacea, and Coralloides in the ground. Caffra and Coralloides are supposed to be hard here too. We'll see soon enough

Oh Kyle, I love that, why have I never heard of 'Sunshine Tree'? I've got to try to find some seeds.

Hi Donna, hope you're doing well and enjoying your new home.

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 4a)

Luv the variegation on your sunshine leave, Kyle. Can you grow them from seeds? It sounds like there are a few of us that will be looking for seeds.

Several times I ordered seeds for these, once paid $14 for about 6 seeds still they came out green.Till I got the cuttings I was very disappointed . But now I am very happy that after many years of looking I finally got this one. This summer I should have some cuttings started.

I just love the Erythrina....unfortunately, we have the Erythrina Gall Wasp now which is killing ALL of our Erythrina in the islands...even the native one. I have a small Sunshine Tree I started from a clean cutting...and it is only 2' tall and its' diet is 90% Imidocloprid. So far, so good. "They" are saving some native trees by using a special injector device that injects Imidocloprid every so many nanuseconds into the tree!

:(

Vancleave, MS(Zone 8b)

oh what a shame

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 9a)

How sad that a native species is being wiped out.

Norwalk, IA(Zone 5b)

Auntie, maybe after the host plants are gone the wasps will die off and they can start over with seeds to repopulate them.

Kyle

That is the hope!!!
