eBay auction
Well Elmcat is bidding and if she wants it she will win :)) It's an awfuly large plant to travel from out of the Country .
Oh my! That is a lot of money. Allison's right, Elmiecat will most likely win. The sad thing is that Elmiecat probably has 3 of this plant already!
i can't believe my eyes.lol
bonnie
YIKES...I like plants, but none quite *that* much!
Yes and there is no gaurentee it's coming from out of the Country no Phyto Cert. he/her says if it does not make it they will send you a smaller one. And also sense it is a Chimeria broken off leaves are of no value so someone will really have to know how to pack . I think they said it was 13 inches across.
Well lot of money for a living plant that might not even make it threw Customs , that could die in a month or two.
And Yes most likley Elemcat does have a few of them lol
Elmiecat didn't win this auction.
Oh, I see now, it's still in progress. Will be fun to watch and see who does win. I must have at least 8 plants of Yukako.

I have two of these coming in the spring for next to nothing!!! Why do people pay so much for these things!!!! I think it just gets to be a competition for some people.
It is a pretty flower but that plant isn't so pretty I don't think. I would be terrified it would be confiscated or in pieces by the time it got to my house.
Joanne
Two days left, so it will probably go over $300. Must be nice to be able to spend that on one plant. :)
Wow Snowrose--8 plants! I have some keikigrow. I should make time to try to propagate my chimeras. I'm afraid to start since I am always so tired and I sadly lost quite a few plants already this winter including (ironically enough) Winter Love--a chimera that I waited for and Lyndon Lyon grew out for me.
Holy Macaroni !! The bid is that high for 1 plant?? And here I thought I was a little off my rocker sometimes. I guess I'm ok after all LOL
I took a crown cutting on my original plant and was blessed with lots of new crown growth (suckers) which I removed and rooted. I would describe Yukako as an unusual novelty collectors type of violet.
I've never used Keikigrow, PlantMomto3, have you?
Hi, Orkidlady!
Cedarnest - See, now your new mantra can be 'Yes, I'm perfectly sane.. perfectly sane. LOL! Repeat after me...
Wow, that is unbelievable.
Orkidlady - Joanne, who do you have them on order with? I'm curious about these chimerias.
There have been other Chimeria's go on Ebay for justabout $400.00
Snow who won one of your plants during my Bingo game ?? That was a great prize !
Maureen there is a few vendors whom sell Chimerias .
Rob does and LL greenhouse does. Here is their list I don't think their 2007 list is out yet.
http://www.lyndonlyon.com/AV%20List%20Chimeras.html
There's a few more vendors in our sticky
I bought one chimera on EBAY and when I got it, it was DOA. I just threw it away.
Someone could buy shelves, lights, pots, AVs and soil for that. : ) Cedarnest - you're so funny. : )
Violet Treasure...if I remember right, I think snboyken (our current bingo hostess) won Yukako in the bingo game you did. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.
WOW Sharon :)) I wonder how it's doing !
Thanks Allison. I'm going to check Rob's site now. LL doesn't show the whole plant, I like to see the whole plant.
You might be able to see the whole plant on AVSA web sight too ? They do gaurentee true bloom. both LL and Rob's
Hi Snowrose!
Maureen I have two people that have the Yukako and they are going to sell me suckers in the Spring...they both live in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. I will get them at the Spring Show & Sale on May 4, 2007.....I know the one lady paid 75.00 US for hers at the Minnesota Convention last summer I think it was. Not sure where the other gal got hers from but I have first dibs on them both and I am going to buy them both so I can share with friends here.
Joanne
I've been trying to decide if having the money to spend 2 or 3 hundred dollars on one plant is a blessing or a big challenge.
The other thought was, "Which bills didn't get paid so the plant could be purchased?"
Checked the site today and they are holding at $220. Looks like the very first day they had a bidding war that went from starting price $50 up to the 220 mark! LOL Every ebay seller's dream! Two people with money who don't want the other person to get it. It will be interesting to see the sniping strategy tomorrow when it's almost at the end...
As for me, I"m happy with my collection gotten almost entirely through free trades!! Maybe they don't know about DG and all the generous traders here~LOL!!
To each his own, huh?
You're a Sweetheart!
Usually the frantic bidding starts in the last minute or two of an auction for a coveted plant. It's always surprising to me when something gets bid up that high on the first day it's listed. I guess I don't understand the strategy of doing that.
Yes so true . LOOKY now Enay changed it so you can no longer know who is bidding.
PS I don't think it will go much higher now that another Ebay seller has one on for about 106.00 Item number: 120073219166
That's weird. I've never seen Ebay do that before. I've seen the seller keep ID's private, but never listed like they are now.
That is really odd.Seems they changed it after it reached a certain price maybe?? I noticed all the other Chimera auctions by this seller still have the bidder names with them like normal. Now I'm really curious.
I was nosing around in it this morning and ebay said it was their new policy. Guess they are all going to be like this now...id's only for the seller to see. Just think, if the policy had gone into effect sooner, I wonder if these two would have bid it up so high?? Probably. I'm still going to check it for last minute sniping~lol!!
So thats going to be the way Ebay will be doing all auctions from now on?That should be really neat.I wonder too if the bidders didn't know who was bidding against them if the bids would get to be so high as they declare war on eachother? I am going to keep checking on that auction too until it ends.I am sooo nosy huh? LOL.
Yes is different. Sometimes bidders will try to outbid people they know go higher or set it up so the seller gets more $$$ . I think someone retraced their bids as there was more than two bidders before . Also one of the bidders that's name was on this auction is now on the same plant on a different auction Item number: 120073219166
Oh also whats different if you go to view just slide you mouse to it no need to click tells you about how long the Number 1 bidder has been on Ebay, their feedback score, how many things they have bid on in the past 30 days what type of items and so on....very different
PS for some reason elmiecat is no longer a bidder on this auction she is now the highest bidder of auction 120073219166 . elmiecat does not often bid up auctions she usaly just bids at the last second ?? So easy to know what some will do . lol And yes she has a few of these plants already.
I vote bidder number one of the auction Item number: 190069127043 above is jlmccrickard HeHe lol I wonder who will win ! Little over 5 hours left !
It's probably a good policy. I know that I don't even bid on a plant if Elmiecat has bid on it. What's the use? On some other AV forums, though, people seem to keep bidding just to try to win the plant so she won't get it. It is soooo weird that she buys so many plants of the same variety and spends such large amounts of money on them. (Of course, I am completely envious of her. :) )
Yes it is good they do this. I asked her once what she does with all her plants as she has thousands and thousands :)) She must need help caring for them ! There is no way she re sells them at the price she pays. I've seen her pay big bucks for plants that are not even rare. I bet her home is gorgous with all her beautiful plants !
I am completely envious of her.too :) )
well Item number: 120073219166 hasnow bee bid by elmiecat and jlmccrickard both high bidders :)) So I wonder if this one will go u inprice now also . Who will win the Yukako plants !
Maybe she treats them like cut flowers and throws them out later (oh the horror) :). Of course, that doesn't explain why she would buy a nonblooming plant.
Well, it isn't me. :) I refuse to bid on chimeras that go that high.
Actually, I purchased a chimera (Rob's Monkeyshines) from that same vendor in Taiwan. He removed all the soil and placed the plant with roots in a plastic bag. It arrived within 7 days and was in very good condition -- no lost leaves. I just potted it up and it's doing quite well.
Marilee
HI Marileeglad you plant is doing good ! Have any picures !!
I figred outit is Elmiecat and jlmccrickard bdding on this plant . hey are al iding on e sae plan auction Item number: 120073219166
Their high $$ bidders so if they want it they will win it well one of them . lol
