It's January and I'm having one of the biggest series of flushes so far this year. Several of my brugs were not available for photographs because they are a bit "tied up" at the moment. Here are some of the others.
Here is Velvet Rose and Taylor dawn
Blooms! Blooms! Blooms!
Absolutely beautiful Gary! Thank you for sharing! Sure is nice to see all those blooms on this freezing foggy moring! I love Jamie's Monkey Business.. what is the fragrance like? I think I'm gonna have to have that one soon. LOL
Gary, Thank you for sharing your photo's with us. Nothing blooming here, so it is really nice to get to see your pictures. I am getting so excited about next year garden.
Wow, beautiful, Gary.
Gary I know you are having fun pollinating. Your blooms look great!
Nice pictures and flowers, Gary. Congrats on living where the weather allows you to have such pretty sights.
Brugs really love the winters in south florida!!!
I'm green with envy! I've been trying to move to south Florida my whole adult life! Just beautiful. Thanks for sharing a little piece of paradise.
I will have to agree with Kristi, just green as can be here too!
Caren
Gary, beautiful pictures.
I could get used to winters in south Florida too, lol.
Love that Jamies Monkey Business! It's still quite pricey.
They are all beautiful!
My two favorite brugs of 2006 are Jamies Monkey Business and Painted Lady. I love the shape and the clean look that JMB has. In the warmer weather the color is a very vivid orange and she has a great fragrance a well. Painted Lady is a large flower. Beautiful shape as well. For me the biggest appeal is the color. The color that I get on Painted Lady is the closest to red of any brug. She is a very heavy bloomer and very fragrant as well. Painted Lady sets seed pods like crazy too. I think she may be a great match to some of our beautiful new doubles.
I'm movin to your house! Everything plant-like is naked or brown here! What a nice thing to see when you are expecting 22 degree weather the next 2 days! Thank-x for sharing. Bj
Gary you have have a blooms that most of us can only dream about!
Ruth
Hi Gary!!
What a cool day today! The Bruggies are loving it!. Yes, a double PL with nice, evenly developed skirts would be fantastic! I think Peanut would be a great cross, because her skirts are gently curved and are layered evenly one upon the other. She's more symmetrical and elegant than some of the other double pinks.
I like to match symmetry with symmetry. Beautifully formed flowers are the outstanding characteristic of a successful cross.
Gary everything is just beautiful. Thank you , Joan
I agree with you Liz, I bet that would be a great cross!
I'm so jazzed about the coming season.. more seeds, more seeds.. Oh man, I'm gonna have to give all my neighbors lessons on growing brugs... I was out of room a year ago! LOL
Your picture of PL above is awesome. I am not an artist, but I've played around with "tole" painting.. That picture makes me want to try to paint it... I keep thinking a real nice big painting of a brug would be priceless... I've seen a few, but nothing to shout about.
edited to say Liz not Gary in the first sentence, and deleted the second sentence asking if he was pollinating.. I read this thread too fast. Sorry!

Gary,
Your beautiful pictures give us 'new to brug addicts' the inspiration to take good care of those small, rooted cuttings while the weather outside is 'frightful'. I hope some of my babies come through this spring with blooms that are even half of those you have!
Thanks for the tour of your fabulous garden,
Louise
(if you ever have too many Painted Lady seeds, they would find a loving home with me-------)
Liz, I did cross Painted Lady with Peanut. That was one of the crosses that I felt would be perfect for her (great minds think alike!). I tried to really think through my crosses this year. For example I crossed Jamies Monkey Business with Golden Lady. With that cross I am hoping for a nice petite Yellow/Orange. I made the same Golden Lady cross with Ludgers Summer Dream.
The "little monkeys" have proven themselves to posses good genes with desirable traits. The emphasis this year will be on color and form. The brugs being used to make these crosses are only those that have proven themselves to be robust and prolific out in the "field".

Gary, Your yard is just beautiful was all those brugs blooming.
Great, Gary!
I'm thinking out my crosses this year, more so than last year. I've also culled a lot of plants. Like you, I have a small area, so having ten mediocre pinks, fifteen peach, and ten kinds of white wouldn't do. I've had the opportunity to study the various plants and have become more selective as a result.
It is gratifying to see so many new doubles (and some triples) this past year, but I also believe a few of the ones that folks are gushing about this year may be culled for more refined plants with better characteristics later on.
Brugmansia growing has certainly come of age. :-)
Oh Gary, you make me cry! Such beautiful flowers!!!! All my Brugs look like broom sticks!
And most of my cuttings rotted....
Congratulations, you are an example for me!
Christie
Gary,
Your Brugs are so beautiful! I hope some day I have a few of thoses you showed us. Please keep the photos comming.
Mickey
Love that Painted Lady!!!
Brad
The temperature outside here right now is -2F (yes, that is a "-" sign before the 2F). How fun to see someone in the south enjoying Brumansia flowers now. Congratulations Gary!
Erick
Hmmm sounds like you need to bundle up Erick....Yesterday was 84 and sunny....same for today....we haven't had anything that would pass for winter weather yet. Usually by now we would have several chilly days in a row, but all I can remember are two nights when the temps were in the low-mid 50's....and that's it!

Gary, what a paradise you have! Drooling here.
Brenda
Gary,
Are your brugs in the ground or pots? Mine are in pots and are a bit pot bound and had no blooms all summer. Hopefully it was because they are 1st year cuttings.
Jan...
All of my brugs are in pots with the exception of Isabella. She is a legacy fro the previous occupant. I have many that are pot bound but I will just remove the water dishes form the bottom of the pots and allow the roots to grow into the ground. I don't have to worry too much about them that way. Even a root bound brug if well fertilized and provided with the proper environment (humidity,sunlight..etc) should reward you with flowers......I hope next year is a better growing season for you. Just remember that brugs should be fed regularly during the growing season (for me that's an expensive 12 months out of the year).
Doesn't stop over here in St. Pete either but does slow down a bit during the winter.
Patience...their time will come. You'll have plenty of blooms next year I'm sure. I don't think your problem was them being pot bound as much as not being mature enough.
