Croton flowers

Mysore, India(Zone 10a)

I think this is the right place to post this as I am not a frequent visitor this particular forum. This is a croton in bloom. There are numerous varieties of this. It was not in my garden, but somewhere else.

Dinu, mine are all blooming again. Before last year we never had croton blooms, now all kinds of them.I have found that crossing two kinds produce seeds quicker. this pic is the female flowers

Oh, I didn't know that. Is what I have posted 'male flowers'? And do they also produce seeds and grow a new plant?

Dinu, from my own observations on crotons, they produce male and female flowers at seperate times, obviously its for cross pollinationIf you can find open flowers on one kind and pick a stem off and "Dust" the pollen off on the three pointed female flowers you can get seeds. The seed pods are like micro sized castor bean pods, they have 3 sections and three seeds most times.Easy from seeds if you soak them overnight then plant lightly covered and with bottom heat.

Didn't know it can produce seeds. Thanks for this info. I have a few crotons in our office campus and will let my friend-who is in charge of the plants section know about it. Will those seeds very viable to grow quickly and does it have variations like the plumerias?

Oh sure they have seeds ! I was even given some in a trade. Crotons are geneticaly unstable therefore a seedling is rarely the same as the parent plant. It also takes 5-6 years to find out what the plant is really going to look like when mature. I have read and been told thou hybridization is both interesting and worthwhile.

I fount more infor on seeds here !
