Hello,
O.K.....I broke down and got me some seeds to tide me over til spring. They are sprouting like mad. Probably gonna need a lot of room when they grow up...soooo....I was wondering if I could put 3 or 4 in a pot and braid them like they do with Hibiscus. Anybody here ever try it??
Thank you,
LeeAnne
Braided??
LeeAnne Glad your seeds are doing well for you exciting ! I am no expert been growing a couple for about 9 years but here in Florida so easy.
The trunks get hard and thick almost like a tree sometimes so I don't think they will work to braid.
But I could be wrong.
Have fun !
Thank you
:)
You have so many it won't hurt please take pictures as they grow so we can see how they do. Wonder what Clare would say ?
I don't think this would work for a number of reasons. The first reason is that the root systems of the three plumies would be entwined and competing for nutrients and water, and you would need a huge container to accommodate the root systems of three trees together. I have three-year-old rooted cuttings that are rootbound in 15-gallon containers so you would need a 45-gallon container for three of them in short order. The second reason is that I think, as Hetty said, they would break in the braiding process, and if they didn't break, they would girdle each other, which would lead to eventual breakage. There are some trees that you can do this with, like ficus, and miraculously, they don't girdle each other, but plumerias hold a lot of water in their stems and are more like succulents than like ficus. The third reason is that these are large trees, as Violet said, and they really need their own space to grow and expand. HTH
Here is a tree pic for those in New Orleans. This Celadine is on Poplar Street.
Thank you Clare...well, that just makes it official...Hubby is going to have to get a better job, so I can build my conservatory to keep these things in....I'll break the news to him tonight... :)

LOL! Sounds good to me! I need one of those too!
