I just purchased some new beautiful hanging baskets but, as usual, they came without identification. This is the first - Are the plain and the variegated two different plants? Could someone please help me identify. Thank you.
New Basket Finds
Cindy the first one looks like Krimson Princess with some solid green leaves, the second one is Kerrii. The marks look like water marks, no harm. Did you find those at HD, if so what was the price on the Kerrii? I grow all of my Kerrii in clay pots, mine does best when I let them dry out before watering. The variegated one that I have prefers more light or early morning sun to keep the variegation strong. HTH

Awanda
Hi Awanda. Does the Krimson Princess also produce plain dark green leaves? I was almost sure it was two different plants. Yes, the first two are from HD. The Kerrii was $8.59. I've been afraid to use clay pots because of the terrible city water we have. Do you use bottled or filtered water? Is the third variegated also a Kerrii? Yes, that is a tremendous help. Thank you so much. I'm a new Hoya enthusiast. I've found that the only place that labels these Hoyas call everything Hoya carnosa, so I'm having trouble identifying a lot of my plants. Thanks so much. Cindy
Yes Cindy the 3rd one is also a Kerrii. I keep water in gallon jugs that I let sit for 24 hours before using, that's how I water all of my plants. Cindy it's possible there are two different plants potted together. The solid green one may be a pubicalxy, but it's hard to tell:-)

Awanda
Thank you so much Awanda. I appreciate the info. Cindy
Cindy, I want to live by your HD....we have one 60miles away in Lewiston & they just never have anything really worthwhile...Deb
I'll be happy to go HD hopping with you if you're ever in town! It's dangerous on the wallet but oh so much fun!
Cindy I think this one is the Queen...Krimson Queen:-)
Blessings,
Awanda
Thanks so much, Awanda
Hi Cindi....nice finds!!! Your first one just may have two different carnosas in the pot... If the solid green vine is continuously green all the way along the vine...then you have a plain green carnosa. Often they are mixed up....The green leaf tends to be a bit thicker and rounder than the variegated ones. Whatever...you take care of them the same!!!
Awanda is right on about H. kerrii. It is found growing in dry areas and can be considered one of the almost succulent ones...I almost never water mine....
Great looking plants. Lucky girl :)
Congratulations! Very pretty plants.

Thanks all, I'm so excited about discovering Hoyas - a sweet lady from Turkey who works at HD here in Tempe introduced me to the H carnosa and encouranged me to try it and told me about the amazing flowers. The rest is history. My curiosity now in insatiable. I just wish there was a good reference book with beautiful. Carol, have you thought about writing a book? Thanks for the advice on these. BTW, is the green leaf with dark pink margin a Carnosa. Does the Carnosa have sub categories?
Cindy...Very often variegates with white or cream also produce a pinkish tone...especially the H. carnosa. H. carnosa has been around for so long that there are many many clones (stock of the same species or cultivar) that have taken on a life of their own. There are also many cultivars of H. carnosa...you might check the plant files.
I leave writing books to the experts!!! It is all I can do to write my name!!! But thanks for the compliment!
