Ahhhhhh, winter isnt even getting started here yet and Im getting ready for Spring! I bought four new Chickies for my fowl Family! My first addition for this year .. Meet the Crele's , Old English Creles that is. they ,of Course , are tiny little BB's and are so Colorful ,and tiny! They have sweet dispositions and fit right into my chicken family !
More New Chicken family!
Now this is My new Husband for Mama Barred Rock! All my other Barred Rocks were destroyed last year by dogs(problem taken care of) except for one sweet Hen . she hatched almost all my eggs last year ! She is the best setter and Mama, but all her chickies were adopted from her bantam family! So this year we will have true Barred Rock Babies too! My New Roo is so Friendly! He greets me in the morning at my front door and Says a beautiful , and Loud Cock-a-dooooodle -doo, as soon as I come out side! I have name him Henry!
My final addition is Papa Belgian Quail, Ive decided to name him ,"Brewster"! Hes so funny and Camera Shy! He is a replacement for one I lost to Hawks! He had a more reserved personality than My other Roos but he keeps a strict regimen for his two Hens! He has a routine of where he walks and when He eats and where his Hens go! He keeps an eye out on the chicken yard and is the first to report if danger is flying over head! He keeps my Chihuahua on his toes too! Im trying to get a good picture of him all flustered and wingspread when he runs My Mr. Pepito out of the yard!! Tooooooooo funny!
As you can see he wouldnt be still for a good photo!
Eufala, I swear each of your roosters is more beautiful than the last! Your Japanese is magnificent, the barred rock is spectacular, and this last little fellow is absolutely gorgeous. I love his coloring.
I am thinking about a trial run this year of just males, to try it out. Will put most of them in the freezer, but hoping to pick one gorgeous one to keep. If that works out, will look for a few hens for him. Have no place ready yet, but that never stopped me before on a project. LOL! BAM
Oh thank you BamBam, I love all My Chickies! Its hard to make a choice of the most beautiful Breed! they all have their own Unique qualities and personalities! Thats why I wind up in trouble as far as space for each breed of Chicken! I love them all! Right now I have them free range together Except for the BB's. They have to be enclosed in a 6 foot High fencing with a special Netting on top , to protect them from the Hawks! I have to get ready now for the Spring Nesting season , by making new nesting boxes and areas for the individual breeds . I plan to sell babies and Hatching eggs! Although I could do as some of the Puppy Breeders are doing( lol) and just get lazy, and let them live al together and then create a new line of Designer Chickens, Haaaaahahahahaha!
I can just see it Now My White silkie and the the Black Cochin producing a "Fuzzy Checker board "! Or how about My little BB red and the Barred Rock Mama ( oh Yes they Can) Producing a Black and White bodied Rooster with a small 2 lb body with a red Collar and 8 inch legs, Ohhhhhhhhh no no no no no!!! that would be just disasterous, Funny , but disasterous!!!!
i think Wyandots are black and white
Hi Phicks, I was trying to be funny! I was just suggesting the funny results of crossbreeding to get " Designer Chickens"!!!!! My Barred Rocks are Black and White too! thanks though for the Link!
LOL ok
congratulations on the newest additions to your chicken family. they are beautiful
I hope you have all good luck and success with them. Beautiful!
sheri
Where do you get your chicks? I don't have any yet but am hoping to get some soon! I have to get a coop built first. I like the old english creles as they can't fly out, can they?
Also, I'd love a rooster but have heard they're mean. Yours sound friendly. I have been reading a lot about chickens (and ducks, geese) for the past couple years in anticipation of getting some but there seems to be a lot fo variation on what the books say and what I read on here that happens in real life!
Gwen
Lovely birds! Gwen, some roosters are nice and some ain't. I've got two good ones now, so don't lose hope!
hey Gwendalou and everybody! Oh Lordy I just love my chickens and they seem to love me! I wont keep a "Bad" one! Oh I have a couple of Fighters but those two gentlemen are in separate coops! When I get there new run made I will introduce their Hens to them and keep them separated from the rest of the population!
Yes I have two large pens , one is made from two 10 by 10 by 6 ft tall Dog enclosures! I just took them apart and rearranged the sides , so I now have three 10 ft panels on each side and one 10 ft panel on each end! Now, my OEG's( Old English Game ) Bantams have a 30 Ft by 10 Ft Run. I covered the top with a heavy duty mesh. I have a little chicken house inside for their night roost and egg boxes!
the second enclosure is a wire fenced Pen attached to an older henhouse! That too is topped, this one with wire! This way I dont have to clip the wings and ruin their beautiful feathers! ........and it keeps the Hawks at Bay!
Those are really pretty! I love OEGB!
thanks y'all, I love OEGB's the best too! they have such color and their personalities are each so different! Oh and My Japanese, oh man they are my regal queens and Kings and they just seem to know it!!! they dont walk they strut, because of their tiny little legs!
When I said I had a couple of roosters that are fighters I was talking about two new Golden Seabrights, they are just young and want to establish their " rights" with all the Hens. NOT going to happen! I have to keep them separated! I do not own any Fighting Games at all! I do not believe in fighting Chickens as a hobby, that is the cruelest thing I can think of, to own and be the caretaker for an animal andthen expect it to fight as a hobby and kill or harm another animal! Nope , not me!
Gwenalou ,I get most of my Chickies from friends or well kown Suppliers like Mc Murray, or Ideal! My Grown Chickens come from people I know or the Chicken Auction near me. I only Buy Chicks that come from recommended farms or from those I know Personally! Never Buy a chicken from some one you dont know! If you do , keep them Quarantined for at least a month til you know the chick is well and bug free! Even buying from known growers If I have gotten them at auction, I keep them separated for at least two weeks because they have been in contact( Air) with other Birds!
