FC2 Update
I was going to have Santa bring me a FC for Christmas but he brought a porcelin music box instead. One of these days I'll get it.
I'm wanting to get this too!! If you get it now, how updated will it be?
Debbie
Oh Joanne you beat me too it.
Nanna maybe Valentines day :))
Debbie when you get it it will be up-to date. Then every two months they will email if you sign up for the email letting you know about the new up-date ! Every once in awhile there are extra up-dates. One time last year ( I lose track of time ) First Class had so many hundreds of new photot and info they up-dated twice that month :)) It was a real treat !
Do you pay for yearly updates?
First Class Version 2 includes 6 months of on-line database updates. (The database is updated every two months.)
The cost now for members is $27.50 for members, and $40 for non-members. Well worth the money !
The yearly updates is $11.00
When I got mine it was $25.00 and ten. I paid $35.00 so I did not have to pay for up-dates for two years.
There is a difference between First Class program and database.and
First Class is a computer program that displays and searches African violet names, descriptions, and photos. Those names, descriptions, and photos are contained in a database. A database update is released at least every two months. If you miss an up-date no problem it will up-date next time you go to up-date.
It cost a lot of money to put these programs together and have them working properly. Cost a lot of money to keep AVSA running, staff and so on.
Joe Burns said a lot of staff has been laid off .
If you love growing African violets join AVSA :))
When you join you get the beautiful AVSA Magazine every two months !

Well Allison I was up so early this morning and am getting tired right now...had a busy day watering and repotted a few things, you will just have to get up earlier than me to beat me to the draw...hehe!
FC2 was the best money I ever spent! I use it almost every single day. That is really unfortunate that so many people are losing their jobs....we are so very blessed.
Does Pat Hancock still have that promotion if you join AVSA and mention her she will send ten free leaves plus postage. I just went and checked. Here is a link with the info:

You are all so very welcome.....I always look forward to the updates.

Everyone knows how great it is to grow Buckeye African violets and to get leaves free wow that is so nice of her . I know she beleives and knows how important it is to suport AVSA :))
I'm so happy for you Debbie !!!
Yay! Debbie, you'll be even happier once your program arrives.... all those fabulous photos! Oh, and speaking of great photos, wait until you see the Valentine cover shot on the current AVSA magazine.... yummy!
WOW Joanne I forgot she give 10 FREE Buckeye leaves with AVSA Membership ! And they sell for $2.50,-3.00 plus each leaf ! WOW ..
And then to be able to get the AVSA Magazine ! and so many other benfits ! Debbie Yeah ! Enjoy !
Joanne, I did forget about the Pat Hancock leaf offer. I'll contact them Mon and see if they can fix it for me.
Critter and V_T, I got about 15 of those AV mags at the first AVSA meeting I went to here in town in Nov. They were giving them away. I picked up a couple and this lady says take all you want.....take em all....please!! LOL So I got some from 1995 to 2005 and I've read em all front to back. I love em. I didn't get to go to the Dec meeting cause I was working 12-14 hours a day, 7 days a week. I also met another lady there that I had just happened to buy a plant from on Ebay. She invited me to her house and she showed me FC 2 on her computer. I've been wanting to get it, but was waiting till after Dec working to get it so I'd have time to play with it when I got it. I'm excited, can't wait to get it!!
Debbie
Hi Debbie,
I don't know if you mention the free 10 leafs offer....don't want to create any problems for Pat. Every single one of the leaves I got from her took. Actually I have a funny story about those leaves.....I had two of one called Summer Love I think it was called and I just threw it away here the other day....I put it down the same time as all the rest on April 8, 2006!!! I pulled it out and it had all kinds of roots but would not send up any babies....I think it was a man!
Good for you and lucky to get those magazines for free!!! I am buying about 10 years worth of them and I am paying...shoot I can't remember how much now...I think around 200.00....will pick them up at the AV show and sale in Calgary in May.
Back to FC2 again....I asked Joe Bruns if he could expand the personal notes so a person can add more info there as we have some ladies in our group that have been growing violets for eons and eons and they have a little history on some of the violets and it would be so nice to be able to document that info so I think Joe said it would be in our next update.....that will be SO VERY HELPFUL!!!
Well I better get some watering done here today.....
Jonane
Debbie ! Great ! You will love First Class ! So nice you have a local group to go to :))
Joe is always helpful. I was having problem with my FC last week and before I new it I had a new CD in my mailbox. He has address on file so he emailed me and said he sent a new CD Yesterday ! So within the day I emailed him 4 days later I had it. Great service all the time !
Yes I agree, he is always on top of his emails as well. He is also a new grandpa....new grandson!
Joanne
Joanne can you believe Joe says there are way less member to AVSA now than in the 60's. Sad what would do with AVSA ? We'd miss out on a lot. and there would be no FC either :((
Hi Allison,
Really!!!! That is unbelievable!
I know we are trying to collect as many Canadian Vintage Violets and in our group of the 854 Vintage Violets we only have 16!!! I was never really aware of such a thing as Canadian violets let alone vintage ones. So we are trying to preserve as much as we can in our generation.
I would not be without my AVSA or my AVSC subs....and to think of not having FC2....well that would just be catastrophic to say the least!
I also am a member of our Calgary AV club as well. There are so many benefits and so much knowledge out there. Also the more contacts a person has the more chance you have have obtaining a vintage or violet that you just have to have. I know I met a lady in Calgary and now we are dear friends and she knows everybody so if ever I am looking for anything....she will round it up for me. She goes to the shows in the US as well.
Well I best get some tidying up here.
Joanne
I always collect Canadian hybrids for a friend that loves them so , most went to her , I'd take a leaf and shared many babies when I was growing.
