Cheap substitute for mane/ tail conditioner

Hank has that really stiff mane & tail hair that feels like it'll break off it you bend it in half. I was grooming him the other day and it was strangely soft, almost silky. When the barn owner walked in, I said "Okay, what did you put on his mane, and where can I buy it???" She laughed - she uses spray Olive Oil. I guess she found it in the black folks hair product section at Dollar General (one of the mark-down stores here). My Dollar General didn't have it, so I picked up some at Kroger in the oils area. $2.50 is a heck of a lot cheaper than Cowboy Magic or some other preparation, and I know this one works. Terri also uses it as a hoof dressing - that's next.
