Found this yesterday at Lowes. I loved the heart shaped leaves. Is it in the aroid family?
Homolomena
It sure is Linda. It looks like possibly Homalomena trapezifolia to me (from the Malay Peninsula). Someone with better knowledge than mine may know if this is cv 'Emerald Gem' or not....
Great find!
ROX
Haven't lost my aroid 'eye' entirely then lol.
Think I'll stop in at my local Lowe's tomorrow! NICE plant!
Lin
She's a diva, Linda. :) Does not like to dry out, soil moisture needs to be just right. I've only been growing mine for several months, but this I have noticed! Nan would have a longer track record with this one than I. Good Luck, she is beautiful!
GH
Thanks GH, right now I have it inside under lights in my 'grow room'. Would it be happier in the gh where it is cooler and more humid?
The natural habitat of this species is in more or less ever-wet equatorial rainforest near streams at low altitude.. if it has any bearing on how its grown....
mmmmmmm, guess I'd better enjoy this one while it lasts. It's still looking very pretty inside and I'm sure it will like my heat this summer if I can keep it going until then.
give it more humidity. Warm mist it a few times each day. Humdifier, place it on a tray of damp pebbles. Glasses of water around. If you had a window in bathroom or kitchen they'd love this. It will then be happy until summer ! Good luck !
Went to my Lowe's the other day .... their plants looked TERRIBLE! Leaves were all water spotted and didn't look good at all. AND, the prices outrageous! I was really disappointed that they didn't have any decent plants.
Lin
The Lowes here gets some good plants in and then stops watering them or water them to death. They are the original Plant Killers!!!
You must have gotten there right after the truck dropped them off. Lovely plant, Linda.
Hap
Hap, I think you're right. My Lowes plants usually look terrible too, but I always take a stroll in their gh just to see what they have. (Like I need a few more plants to take care of).
