Carnosa hmm? help!

Vista, CA(Zone 10a)

Okay I thought I had the carnosa thing down, but now that this has bloomed I am again confused. I thought this plant was the carnosa princess (because of the variegation on the leaves). I have the Carnosa Queen and the Krinkle 8 (which these flowers look a lot like to me in the DG plantfiles) and the leaves resembel neither.

A few other question this again brings me to then...
H. Rubra is the same as the Carnosa princess right?
H. Pictata is different than H. Plictata right?
What is the carnosa tri color, an entirely different carnosa? and what about the exotica? this also looks similar to that in foliage i suppose...

Any Input??

Thanks

and the stems coming off the umbel are also lighter than the other plant I have that looked similar when it bloomed, but I don't know if lighting (or someone mentioned temperature before) may have affected this?

Abbie,

My understanding is that H. carnosa 'Rubra' is the same as 'Krimson Princess,' 'Picta,' 'Crimson Princess,' and 'Exotica.'

Also, I understand H. carnosa 'Tri-Color' to be the same as 'Krimson Queen,' 'Variegata,' 'Variegata Aurea,' 'Picta Aurea,' 'Tricolor,' and 'Tricolour.'

I am not sure if there is such a hoya as H. pictata, but there is an H. plicata.

I am going to take a guess that you have a GORGEOUS H. carnosa 'Rubra.'

Good growin'!

Abbie...you certainly have some beautiful plants!!!

Hoya carnosa and all of its' cultivars have been around for a long long time...and while there are some basic perameters for identification ('Krimson Queen' has the cream or white on the margins of the leaf while 'Krimson Princess' has green on the margins)...there are variations as to size/shape of the leaf, color of the flowers (determined more by environment and nutrition than by the clone) etc. There are no EXACTS and ABSOLUTES in the hoya world....unfortunately! H. pubicalyx is the same...with many sports and cultivars. They are both wonderful hoyas and you are SO lucky to bring them to bloom!!!!

Thanks so much everyone, for the kind words and all the facts!! Along with being so lucky as to inherit my mothers nice digital camera for christmas (anyone can take a nice picture with this camera, even me!) I guess I am also fortunate enough to live in Vista -one of the best climates in the world for almost anything in my opinion...I often forget about certain plants for weeks at a time while obsessing about others, so I try to only buy things that will prevail through my neglect (sadly this habit makes certain really beautiful plants almost impossible for me to keep alive). The one thing I am most cautious about is my humidity (not too specifically though!) - though it drives my husband nuts at times, he loves me (and luckily my plants!) enough to let me run it practically 24/7 in the living room (or as hubby calls it - my jungle;), which is where most of my hoyas are currently residing since we lost the top on our green house about a month back in a wind storm.

I REALLY appreciate the info on carnosas Ann, I think that clears up any past confusion I had about the names. & Carol, as always;) expanding all my info at the same time and likely saving the group from what would have been my next inevidable posting inquiring about the publicalyx (or what I think is a publicalyx & has some very nice sized buds I am hoping will bloom soon!) !!
