OT -belated Xmas present

Mesa, AZ(Zone 9a)

Whoohoo one of my belated Christmas presents is just about complete and I just had to share! Hubby has a few more things to do, but basically the pond is finished!! I picked up a small koi and some gold fishes tonight from Wal-mart. We were also given a small turtle! Wal-mart also had some water lilies and I purchased 3 of those. My other Christmas present is this http://www.4seasongreenhouse.com/sundog-large-barn-greenhouse-p-641.html
I'm going to order it next week, but I won't be able to put it up until April when its warmer and I can leave my hoyas outside, I love the fact that it has an 8 foot roof, room to hang lots of hoyas. I plan on donating my old greenhouse to a charter school!

Blessings,
Awanda

Awanda,
Your pond is gorgeous, and I can't wait to see your greenhouse full of plants.

Awanda - NICE greenhouse!!! And you don't fool me for a minute - that pond is NOT a fish pond, it's part of an elaborate system to keep us out of your greenhouse with our scissors!!! (But it really is a nice pond!) Karen

Mesa, AZ(Zone 9a)

Oh Karen would I do that???? Thanks everyone, I'm really happy with it and can't wait to get my new greenhouse up and running. With the Sundog greenhouse I can add hanging shelves, which will give me a lot more room. Carol is so right, I do have an absoutely wonderful, good looking, and generous hubby. Here is a picture of our new turtle, I don't know if it's a he or she:-)

Just beautiful Awanda. Your turtle looks to be a Red Eared Slider. You must watch him if the fish are little...he may pick on them.
Anyway..you are one lucky lady.

Beautiful I love the new pond & waterfall. You certainly must have been a good girl. LOL

Lovely pond and fabulous greenhouse Awanda! Congratulations. Just love your turtle too, be sure to let us know what you name it, because, even turtles need a name!

I have named the turtle "Mervyn Myrtle the Turtle" since I don't know if it's male or female:-).

Awanda

I used to have a hedgehog...and named it Charlemagne. Found out it was a female...named it Charlie. It all works.

Way to cover all your bases, Awanda!!

WOW! Awanda .... you lucky gal! Love that pond/waterfall set up and I'm so envious of that greenhouse, it sure is a nice one. I haven't had a GH in many years and since joining DG am thinking that I Should have one, I Need one, I Want one! :) I've been talking about a pond with waterfall for many years too .... maybe someday! Cute name for the Turtle! I like "Myrtle the Turtle" if it's a girl. Are you gonna get a companion for Mervyn/Myrtle? I wonder if a pet store could tell you the gender of your little M/M turtle?

Here's a link to some interesting info on the red slider turtles .... seems like they live a long time.

Here's another link to a web page talking about determining the sex of red sliders.

Hi Awanda,

I also have turtles in my pond and one is named Mrytle after my SIL, Merle Tuttle that died in 82 and the other turtle is Fertile. So I have Mrytle and Fertile the turtles. We use to call Merle, Mrytle the turtle and she hated it. Shortly after installing our pond I bought a large plastic turtle and named it Mrytle. About 6 months after the pond was installed a real turtle came to live in our pond and that's the one we named Fertile. He has now been with us 9 years.

(Zone 1)

Oh Jeri, that is too cute! I bet your SIS is smiling down from heaven and lovin' it!

Lin

LOL, knowing Merle, she is probably shaking her fist at me.

Jeri

(Zone 1)

Maybe shaking her fist, but I bet she's laughing too! I would be honored if someone named a pet after me! LOL ... especially with a cute name like that!

Lin thanks for the link on Mervyn Myrtle the Turtle:-).

You are quite welcom Awanda .... cute little guy or gal you got there! I so would love to have a pond, with some fish & turtles! And a waterfall, and a fountain! It just adds so much to the garden! My hubby is gonna retire in about 7 or 8 years and my "Honey Do" list is growing by the day! We have a 150 gal Marine/Salt Water aquarium in the living room and we have 4 cats - our little family could use some turtles!

Hope you will post some pic's when you get your new greenhouse and get it it all set up!

Did you get the water pressure fixed on the pump? It turned out really nice, your going to spend alot of time seated out there by it. Lucky Lady..

Mesa, AZ(Zone 9a)

Kermit did get the water flow fixed and it's running just right now:-). I spent a lot of time out there today, the temp was 75 and just beautiful. The fishes must have enjoyed the weather too, they were swimming around the top of the pond all day. We're going to get 2 more koi and several more goldfish, and maybe a friend for Mervyn Myrtle the Turtle:-).

Blessings,
Awanda

Well ya need a Nemo too !! I vote yes to another turtle, if those fish are refusing to become friends with M&M then you need to find him/her a companion.

Keaau, HI(Zone 11)

Watch out for the Herons. They can decimate a pond really fast. If you have waterplants or a structure where they can hide....that works!

My granddaughter loves turtles...from Nemo (the movie) She calls all of the 'Dude'....

Mesa, AZ(Zone 9a)

I have some plants in the pond that helps some. I noticed they stay at the bottom around the pump and sometimes in between the rocks. My neighbor across the street lost several of her fish to a heron, I'm hoping he doesn't know about our pond:-).

Blessings.
Awanda
