care of white calla

Beachwood, OH

I'm hopeless on this calla lily, and still, I hope for some help. I got some giant white calla lilies a few years ago in a trade from someone in CA. They bloomed the first year and never since. Every year I goof something up but somehow they continue to survive. I let them go dormant at the end of the summer and then potted them up and brought them inside into a cool room with a sunny exposure. They threw out a lot of nice foliage but no flowers. What do I need to do?

aly, im hoping someone will answer you as I have the same problem. Can not get them to bloom, great foliage though!

aly, I wash and dry my calla bulbs, put them in clean pot and soil. Then I put them on a shelf in the basement for the winter. I water them just a little once or twice. In April I put them in a sunny window and water them. Most of them survive. And they bloom each year. I only have a couple bulbs and sadly they are all white. But this year I'm ordering more.

I know you can keep them as a houseplant as you are doing. I'm not sure how you would get them to bloom. Maybe hardly watering and fertilizing them at all in the winter and then in the spring give them a big boost?
