Some of these are year round residents. This one is wading in the Gulf of Mexico, near Rockport, Texas.
Great Blue Heron.
Very nice pic trois! How tall are they?
wow beautiful crisp, clear pic
They are about 4 feet tall. In a remote location once, a juvie ran up to me and solicated food. After a few seconds, it appeared to realize it's error and trotted back into the cattails. It reached to about my neck but still to young to fly.
Thank you, DonnaB.
Great shot Trois!
TROIS HOW FORTUNATE YOU ARE! HERE IN THE NORTHEAST, THEY ARE SO CAUTIOUS. WE HAVE SOME ALONG THE SHORE LINE BUT THEY FLY TO ANOTHER SPOT QUICKLY IF THEY NOTICE ANY MOVEMENT OR SOUND. YOUR PIC IS GREAT, YOUR MOMENT WITH THE YOUNG HERON PRICELESS!!
That was about 30 years ago, so it must be once in a lifetime. Around the coast they are not jumpy, but they are every place else.
Thanks, daiseycat.
